These are politicians. They don't ask "where is good to eat?" They ask: "Where can I go that will give me the maximum exposure to voters in our base?" And that would be Dearman's for him. Lots of conservative middle aged white folk that are in the middle to upper class.

There are better restaurants within a half mile of Dearmans - Eliza, Beausoleil, Palermo etc. There must be a reason they selected that particular restaurant.
