Tax increase for teacher pay raise will never pass. Too many children attend private school. Why should parents who pay for private school pay for an increase in salary for public school teachers?

The state could also quit handing out ITEP exemptions and be awash in money to raise teacher pay.
You have clearly missed what the people of Louisiana are saying.
We don’t want more taxation in a state that is overtaxed.
Reduce bureaucracy, decrease wasteful and unnecessary spending, hold government employees accountable.
Do all of this before trying to squeeze the taxpayer for more.

ITEP isn’t stealing money, it’s saying business pay less. CoA is stealing money.

Nope. They would have used a Constitutionally protected fund to pay for the teachers a raise. It’s a short sided plan that teachers wanted to do in order for a permanent raise of $43 per week.
Louisiana schools benefit from the Educational Excellence Fund. It shouldn’t be dissolved to provide a raise for today’s educators.

For starters, Cut at least 90% of the Administrative staff. Outsource whatever can be outsourced with very strict and transparent oversight.
Run properly, there is PLENTY enough money to make our teachers the highest paid in the WORLD!

There is plenty of general tax revenue in LP with all the large number of new subdivisions comprising houses on lots the size of postage stamps.

Get rid of administrative bloat
It is funny.
When I was in grade school and junior high, we had 1 principal and limited office staff.
That same school 25 years later has 3 principals and a myriad of office staff.
The school hasn’t grown much either.

Nope. Schools cannot function without Administrators. Many Teachers ultimately become Administrators. You would deter them from the profession.

[quote]The lottery revenue was supposed to be all about education. LOL. Louisiana already has the highest combined state and local sales tax rate in the nation. That means every single state that ranks above Louisiana in education has lower sales tax rates. They obviously have larger tax bases and a better ratio of contributors vs people genuinely in need. Working it from that angle seems to be the answer.[/quote
This argument doesn’t provide any actionable points.

All taxes are theft.
Given the choice between private business keeping more of their money versus wasting it in the government machine, I’ll choose private business 100% of the time.

The administrators are not in the classroom. Are teachers not trained to teach any more?
I’m for neighborhood one room school houses. Books, pencil and paper only.
We need to teach our kids critical thinking and get their heads out of social media and all of the distractions.

Teachers teach. Administrators literally run the business. There is a big difference. Teachers can’t teach if there is no business

Not in Livingston parish. One of the main reasons people move there is for the public schools.

Public education is a total failure

Don’t think people are arguing that schools don’t need administrators, the issues is the number of administrators.
My kids school has a principal, vice principal, assistant vice principal, 4 front office people, accountant, councilor, director of early learning (6 weeks to PK4), 2 administrators for early learning, 2 front office people for early learning. All of that for less than 60 teachers and assistants and approximately 350-400 students between 6 weeks and 7th grade.

Many times, schools and districts take money, especially for SPED kids, and ignore the admin overhead that is required by federal law. You need SPED certified curriculum coordinators, a "Director of Specialized programs" (real job posting that requires 15 college credit hours), other people to deal with behavior cases, and the TAs (it was 3 SPED kids per 1 TA in our elementary school.) All of that costs money, but the school "won" for getting a few thousand extra per kid, and parents cheer it.
And no, at least in my junior high, most don't teach. They direct kids to YouTube videos, IN CLASS, in English, Math, Science, etc.

One parish will not determine a tax increase

Cake job? They are basically a full time parent to like 20 kids. You think that's easy?

Uh yeah, I believe giving out lessons and explaining the material is absolutely easy.
Unpleasant kids sometimes? Sure
