And THESE are the students who get all the financial aid - not the kids who might actually make a difference in the world if they had some support thrown behind them.
The value of a Bachelors degree is declining by the year as these idiots churn through and leave with one.
These are also the people whose student debt generates zero ROI, so the rest of us get to pay for it when it's "forgiven."
Preach it brother

The answer is really the admissions policies.
This is a lazy response.

LSU is celebrating its most academically accomplished freshman class in history, with a record-high average ACT superscore of 26.5, up from 25.5 in Fall 2022. The class also has a record-high GPA of 3.82, compared to 3.78 in Fall 2022.

It comes down to a lack of awareness and respect so few have these days. Doesn't matter the race or economic situation. No one will shut up. Everyone is most important. Professors are basically substitute teacher babysitters.

These scores are all smoke and mirrors. First, LSU is now test-optional, so only students with above average scores will report, thus making it look like the average is much higher than it really is.
Second, the GPA results are the same. From their website:
GPA: 3.5-4.1
ACT: 23-29
"These numbers represent the middle 50 percent of our admitted freshmen, which means 25% of students exceeded this range and 25% fell below this range."
Still good grades, no doubt, but the bottom quartile could be literally anything. The middle 50% could be made of 99% 3.5 and 1% 4.1 LOL.
Also, 25% of students have LOWER than a 23 on the ACT, and those are only the reported scores.
Numbers can be cooked and words matter.

That (minus the yelling) used to be the classroom before professor entered and stopped as soon the professor entered.
If we wanted to be social or not pay attention we just did not go to class.
Reminded me of the Honors dorm video and various arrests last fall
Just surreal to keep seeing stuff like this as LSU.
LSU is allowing a disservice to every other student in that class and any other classes where similar is happening.
I wish there was also a video showing what was happening further back in class.

That's called cherrypicking statistics. Since LSU is test-optional, applicants don't have to report their ACT scores. That brings up a whole host of issues regarding the quality of the applicants, but that's a different subject.
The statistics are manipulated to look like the majority of students have above average GPAs and ACT scores, when in reality it's not the true parameter of the data. If they actually gathered data from every single applicant, I guarantee you that the average GPA and ACT score would be much lower than what they're presenting. It's false marketing to make the school look better than it is.

Zoomers are the most incompetent generation. I taught them for 7 years and they're the reason I quit.

This is brought up every time someone tries to bring up ACT scores of admitted freshman (especially test-option part) as an attempted retort to an alumni of LSU stating they don’t want their kids to go to LSU anymore, but some keep trying to push the high ACT score narrative.
It’s either ACT scores or in spring and summer it was also look at national championships and having a cool President who loves sports and ignore what’s actually been done with hiring, admittance, standards, spending decisions, curriculum, and so on on education side.

I was in a chemistry class there where some students were just having unrelated casual conversations during class constantly. The professor was an awkward older guy who was too nervous to say anything. That would have never happened in my high school classes. White kids

I’m really curious if this is the new norm in all classes at LSU or just this particular class?
