According to reports heat wave blazing through Kansas feedlots has killed an estimated 10,000 head of fat cattle

Since they weren't killed by disease, are the ranchers still able to send them to slaughter and recoup some of the investment?

95 in Chicago today. Usually this kind of heat is accompanied by tornado warnings and heavy afternoon storms.

No more than a handful I'd assume, it's probably a big time issue to move 10k+ dead cows

The heat didn't kill those cattle. If it did then the feedlot owner is looking at charges.

I dont think so. I'm pretty sure cattle have to be alive and the slaughterhouse has to kill them, among many other checks, for an inspected slaughterhouse to take them.
