Hank III looks and sounds so much like Sr. it's scary. The first time Minnie Pearl (who knew Sr. from their time together on the Opry) met Hank III, she told him, "Lord, honey, you're a ghost."

I bet some of those tours with all the artists playing at that time were some wild arse trips when all them dudes got together

I can only imagine Cash, Waylon, and Hank Jr. on a tour together. Hank Jr. actually sang a song about it. All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down.

My cousin and his former wife from Oak Ridge were good friends and she met Hank Jr a bunch. He used to duck hunt there a lot.

First cut of All my Rowdy Friends on tv

Good video here of Hanks legendary friends recognizing his talent. I don’t think he gets enough credit and his record sales don’t match up with others. When he’s obviously much more talented

Too bad they got John Boy from The Waltons to play Hank Jr. in Living Proof - The Hank Williams Jr. Story.

Hank Jr. is probably one of the most underrated guitar players in the industry and in his prime he was doing it drunk.

Not just guitar. Saw him live several times in the 90s and he would get the band to start on a Hank Sr. song like Kawliga, and Jr. would rotate through playing guitar, steel, drums, pretty much every instrument on stage.

I had forgotten what Jr. had done to get his song taken off MNF. It's so absurd...even in 2011, that ESPN basically white knighted for Obama, even though Jr clarified that he wasn't even comparing Obama to Hitler.

Not just guitar. I have seen him play piano, saxophone, fiddles, and other instruments. The guy is just plain talented.

Check out his autobiography, it worth reading. Explains a lot of the pressure he felt being Sr's son and that crazy mother of his.

It's no wonder he ended up hooked on booze and pills. I think he was three when Sr. died. Barely five years later Audrey had him on stage wearing either copies of his dad's clothes or the originals altered to fit him and made him sing all of Sr's songs.

I love Hank and I don't remember the details of him losing his MNF gig. I do remember Hank always being pretty right of center with his politics, so what?

Maybe someone can remember back further than me, but the first salvo over the bow in starting up this idiotic cancel culture was George Bush and the right going after the Dixie Chicks for saying the Iraq war was stupid. ( I hate seeing people getting punished for being right)

They didn't just lose one gig, it stopped their entire careers for a few years when they were on top.

The way record sells were calculated in Jr's prime has something to do with that. Record shops estimated sells and gave that in, but they later digitally scanned every sell. Had they had that ability in the Jr's peak years then he may have sold as many records as Garth.

I believe it was Ralph Emery who said he has heard Hank Jr did not belong to Hank Sr but Hank 3 shows that was obviously a lie.

What did Bush or his admin do? This is what I found in what he said about it, which seems pretty reasonable:

"The Dixie Chicks are free to speak their mind. They can say what they want to say." He added in a separate interview, "I want to do what I think is right for the American people, and if some singers or Hollywood stars feel like speaking out, that's fine. That's the great thing about America. They shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people don't want to buy their records when they speak out."

The Dixie Chicks facing criticism and fans reacting are not the same as ESPN canceling Hank Williams Jr. Fans of the Dixie Chicks revolted, which should not be too surprising. The war in Iraq had a lot of support from Americans at the time, especially people who you'd expect to be country music fans.

The fans of Hank Jr and MNF didn't care much at all about his comments about Obama.
