I read the underlying VICE article, which basically presents the issue as a US doesn't have much of a treatment option vs. other places where they do.
They've found that - even with chemical castration, offenders are highly likely to re-offend. Many serial killers are impotent, so that's not the answer.
I'm not even sure lobotomy is. We may just have to accept that there are some folks who don't belong among us.

But in this case they're acknowledging that it's a mental illness
A generation ago, homosexuality was a mental illness. Then it was normalized. Then it was tolerated. Nowadays? Celebration is MANDATORY.
Just a few years ago, gender dysphoria was a mental illness. We quickly moved past the normalization and toleration stages. We're just a few steps from mandatory celebration.
NOW we want to bring pedophiles "into the light" - "to get treatment" - seems like I've heard this music before.
I think I know how it ends.

exactly...a lot of people don't realize that chemical castration doesn't always prevent further offenses...it doesn't stop what's going on in their heads, and there are many other ways for them to act on those thoughts.

I honestly don't know much about the subject but found this in Korean research, Korea seems to have the most experience with chemical castration.
quote:
Surgical castration reportedly produces definitive results, even in repeat pedophilic offenders, by reducing recidivism rates to 2% to 5% compared with expected rates of 50%. Chemical castration using LHRH agonists reduces circulating testosterone to very low levels, and also results in very low levels of recidivism despite the strong psychological factors that contribute to sexual offending
Journal article
Again, this topic is one I have very little insight on. The state with the most experience here is CA.
That said we are moving off-topic since the primary focus of the OP was non-offending pedophiles.

On the offender side, we have to decide as to either require a minimum life sentence for any offender OR we have to look at ways to prevent recidivism.
On the non-offender/pre-offender side, we have to decide if making medical/mental services more available is a net good or bad thing. I understand the position of the slippery slope argument, but I simply don't think it is the biggest concern here. If someone has the predilection to rape children but is seeking help to prevent it I don't want to be someone standing in their way. I am not one to excoriate the Catholic church as a whole but if they had made it easier to help priests get help maybe some children would have been saved from molestation. Maybe if they had been able to acknowledge the demon they could have been helped to manage and avoid the situations that allowed them to be tempted into acting.

You aren't good at this.

oh, i agree that if someone has these desires, has not acted on them and wants help to keep from acting on them, they absolutely should be helped...the problem is how to do that.

You are good at evading questions.
Show me where I wrote Exactly what you said in that post? You know I didn’t. You got defensive and twisted words. Emotions getting best of you. As bad as I have ever seen you post.

What is to stop them from seeking private counseling now?

The fear a non-offender would be reported by the counselor is probably a huge deterrent. Based on what little I have read there are very few clinicians in the US trained for this type of therapy both cognitive and chemical.
You can read about Prevention Project Dunkelfeld which is a German initiative that has spawned these discussions recently. The slogan is "You are not guilty because of your sexual desire, but you are responsible for your sexual behavior. There is help! Don't become an offender!"

The reality is that there are people who inherently have pedophilia feelings/urges.
So what? The reality is that almost most human beings are raised with a moral compass to know what is right and wrong and know to control their urges. Some times I have the urge to whip some morons arse, but I don't. Some times I see a fine arse woman whose skirt I want to lift up and violate her, but I don't. Some times I want to rip the nose ring from some losers noses, but I don't.

From the down vote of my posting I can see that we have at least one pedophile on here.

I’d say it’s the same one who argued all night defending pedos then woke up this morning and first thing he did was pick up where he left off.
Worst part of it is instead of coming out and being direct with his barbs, like a normal man would do, instead he prefers to go the passive aggressive route like a woman.

Ironic after this post of yours which is the definition of pussy passive aggression.
Again, show me where I've defended pedos. Otherwise you're either trolling or just plain unintelligent. Based on your years of posting here, I tend to go with the latter.

It's the next step.
That's why they're pushing this trans nonsense on children. If a kid can legally decide to take hormone blockers then a child can decide to have an adult partner.

VICE pushes to 'destigmatize' pedophilia
Around a decade ago on Poli we had a thread discussing what would be the next "normalization" push by the Left's ever-expanding identity politics, pedophilia was #1 by a mile.
My only surprise is that it's taken this much time.
It's been a looooong time since I've studied the subject but to the best of my recollection there's never been a pedo whose been "cured" through meds nor therapy.
