It's in remission. But he has lifelong issues from it (as well as medication that he will need to continue to take) as a result.

The recruiters office was and is open to everyone.
I'm a veteran. You can't just claim it and get it. It's a very long process. If you claim it, they will send you to a doctor that specializes in whatever your claim is. You also have to have some kind of documentation.

I have a high school classmate who got 100% due to agent orange in Vietnam…
The door gunner needs to refile under the PACT act.
I’m at 90% due to the PACT act….waiting to hear on an increase in ratings on my right wrist, elbow, and shoulder that may bump me up to 100%.
My disabilities are based on nearly 37 years of service…big difference retiring at 55 vice 42.

Yeah, but this is the third rail in American politics. No one is touching this one.

Mind ya own business.
I like my 100% and i ain’t worried about what no one else thinks about that. It’s very nice on top of what i get from work

Yes, lets just ignore the lifelong issues the cancer has caused.

I know a vet with 80% disability who hiked Philmont scout trails 50 miles with a 40 pound pack on his back, as a scoutmaster. Twice.

I believe you are correct. Recently met a man with half his leg missing and only getting 70% from an IED in Iraq. I might be a bit biased as I am getting close to retirement and looking at this.
But another way to look at it. We were at war for 20 years with an all volunteer military. During that time, many folks got out and learned the system. Heck, many companies were started to help vets "game" the system. So who's to blame, the vets or the administration that made the system?
FWIW, I don't mind the vets getting more money. To me, it's way better than the illegals or folks who've drawn money and never gave our country anything back.

It seems if you are 100% disabled you would be incapacitated
The VA disability rating refers to how much of your daily life is impacted by your disability. As well, there are 2 100% disability ratings. 100% disabled/hirable, and 100% disabled/non-hirable.

A lot of claimants are legitimately disabled, often mentally or other things you can't see such as back pain, bad knees, hearing loss, etc. Don't be too quick to judge.
That said, there's also some blatant abuse. For example, my son has a buddy who separated from the Army a year or so ago....a raging alcoholic. Dude literally claimed his alcoholism was a result of his time in the Army and was awarded 100% disability. Ridiculous...first I'd ever heard of any sort of disability for substance abuse.

Majority are sucking off the government tit and are no better than your common welfare whelp. "But I did muh service and got injured" chill out Karen, you tripped on a rock walking back from getting your morning Starbucks at lackland.

You just misunderstand based on the wordage. There is 100% disabled and Total disabled. You're thinking 100% means Total disabled meaning you can't work. It's not the same. The percentage has nothing to do with working. And these are benefits that were agreed upon when they signed up for the military.
