I was in Calistoga a few months ago and there was a couple there that had a beautiful Sprinter van.
Th they had it open so that people could look into it. Just walking by it on the street the man stink coming out of that thing was just powerful. Poor guy probably didn’t even know how awful his van smelled because he lived in it and was use to the smell.
I was suggest you just rent a van for a couple of months and make sure you are clean while you’re in there and treat the van as a vehicle. Do your living outside of it.

I would do the sailboat thing.
Go where ever you want to with the comforts of home.
Get away from the crowds or find them.

If I was single I might try it in the summer months while it's hot as balls in Louisiana. However, ol gurl would not approve of van life.

At 42 you're going to want to step it up to an RV. Snag you a drivable RV & pull your truck/SUV behind. There are plenty of sites to help with extremely affordable RV parks with power, water/sewage hookups.
Everyone knows you can park & sleep in a Wal-Mart parking lot overnight when you need it.
Get you Starlink so you can work anywhere.
There's the hobo way to do it & there's the modern comfortable way to do it. Go with the latter.

If you bought it all brand new it’s still less or the same as what he’s talking about. I wouldn’t. I could do this for 75k and it wouldn’t be an old setup.
My first one wasn’t a flat bed dually it was a 1 ton (29k). Camper was an Arctic Fox 990 (26k). I want an Arctic Fox 1150. I see a 2024 for 37k. I can get a dually truck or flatbed dually for 35 or less. About 5k to add other things I’ll need.

Just a heads up that you're basically in your "prime earning years"...so over the next 10-15 years or so is when you should be making the most you ever will in your entire career to hopefully set up a comfortable retirement.
So, yes, this is a terrible idea. If you wanna drive around in a van, do it when you retire and know you're not poor as shite.

We been living in ours for 12 weeks so far on our Alaskan Adventure. Don't think we could permanently live in it but it's sure nice to travel in
