I have to ship something and found that they had a flat rate box that would ship the item for $19. Well, the post office doesn't keep that flat rate box in stock. The lady there was very helpful, but the best alternative we found was ~$60 due to size of the box and weight when following the traditional pricing structure(12x20").

I decided to research other options and that's when I found I can have USPS ship me a flat rate box in the size I need, but I have to order a minimum of 25 boxes. Catch is......they are free to have shipped to the house!

How is that a sound business model...."we will charge you a reasonable amount unless a specific type of box isn't available, then it's triple the price, but if you want, we will send you 25 times the amount of material required for free, delivered to your house for free, and then you can get the original reasonable shipping charge..."

Take solace in the fact that no matter what you pay, the USPS will probably lose it in transit.

It's a government agency, not a business

This. Congressmen control it. By control it, that means they get kickbacks

Every Post Office I've been to lately does stock all sizes of flat rate boxes.

I'm curious as to what kickbacks you think one could receive from the USPS?

I would be a sarcastic turd, order the 25 boxes and deliver them to the post office desk but after they're delived to my house. A donation... Make them feel stupid for not stocking them.

I've had things shipped to me from eBay sellers that use the flat rate envelopes in place of bubble wrap. I guess they are free so why not? Usps needs to charge the flat rate when you buy the package/envelope and that will end the abuse.

That free USPS Priority Mail shipping tape used to be the shite. I used it for everything. They cut that out with quickness

Sounds like you need to order a couple thousand so you don't run into this problem again.

Looks to me like you can order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, or 25 Large Flat Rate boxes.

A large flat rate box is 12x12x6. Something doesn't add up here.
