The price already increased to 68 cents earlier this year, now going up another nickel.

I remember when it was 23 cents.....

Well Biden said it was $1.00 when he took office, so he’s done a lot, but there’s still a lot more to do.

We're gonna be trading the damn things like they do in prison in a couple years.

frick yeah! I still have almost a full book from back when they came out with “forever stamps” and they were $0.41. I’m holding on to them until I double my money!

its like they are deliberately driving themselves to irrelevancy.
"Hey, hold on..forget that venmo. i'm going to write you a paper check and next time i'm downtown i'll stop at a meter & drop 50 cents in..go into the post office..wait in line..buy a book of stamps...use ONE...then put the rest in my desk drawer where i can open it every day for the next 7 years and look at the stamps that will never get used."

Wait til we start getting charged for sending emails.

And they will still not deliver items in a timely manner.

Smartest thing the Postal Service ever did was come out with the forever stamp, therefore we forget what they cost, kinda like shrink fellation on bags of chips and other items that we don’t keep track of their weight. Milk industry is still kicking themselves for not simply calling it a jug of milk instead of a gallon of milk

I told people when that happened to stock up. It’s still the best investment I’ve ever made. I have close to 5000 left. They either counted on nobody thinking into the future or they are just stupid.

Don’t remember the last time I used a stamp.

I went to go find what year this would have been to plug it into an inflation calculator and rail on the Federal Reserve for a minute, but you managed to throw out a number it's literally never been

Maybe .22 in 1985-87?

You can get stamps at Walgreens. You don’t have to buy them from the post office.
But I do agree they’re fading into obsolescence. There are still some times you need to send something as a letter rather than an email for various reasons (in my experience, usually because of some legality where you need to document something in letter format) but often those situations call for certified mail anyway.

I imagine it's mostly that they don't care. Last I looked, junk mail constitutes something like 2/3 of all mail sent. Add to that non-junk "legitimate" metered business mail and I have to think the percentage of mail that goes out with an actual stamp on it is in the single digits.
So USPS got an immediate injection of currency when that currency was worth more (due to continued inflation) and a good number of them were either lost or are just sitting in a drawer somewhere, never to actually be used. But when they are used, who cares? They make up a staggeringly low percentage of "postage" being used.

I haven't had to do it in years now, but there was a period of my life in which I was having to somewhat frequently explain to some jackass that, yes, I can absolutely cancel their service via email, which is legally considered "in writing", and that no, I don't have to call them to do so verbally, which carries less legal weight.
They were generally willing to "make an exception in this case", the stupid fricks
