Settling is stupid. That being said, most of those idiots also don't understand compromise. Life isn't a Disney film or a RomCom, nobody is going to save you. Go out and meet as many women/men as possible and increase your chances.

As for on topic. Lots of people settle. Menz and Womenz. It's not always bad. It's kind of like getting the Honda instead of the Mercedes. It's smarter and better value. Self awareness seems to be lacking in the people who thinking "Oh I've settled. I wish i hadn't". That's not the same. I'm saying it's okay to find someone 'good enough' for you even if it's not the hottest smartest chick in the world.
Being blinded by infatuation and good looks will often unearth some serious long term issues down the road. Like religion, values, fiscal responsibility. Those are things a man is REALLY quick to overlook if a woman is very attractive and pays him all the attention he can handle. That makes him all giddy and tingly in his balls and heart. He marries her and it's like OH shite 5 years later.

This is true. I went the super hot route with my ex. Looking back now, I had no business marrying her. We didn't have much in common. Now I realize my mistakes. One day you're gonna be old. I'm not saying that sexual attraction isn't important because it is. Sex is VERY important in a good relationship. But you have to find someone that can be your best friend when you're old and gray and it's just the two of you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna settle for some fatty or fugly girl. But I have walked away from some smoke shows over the past year, knowing that we wouldn't have anything more than being attracted to each other. I'll take a cute girl next door if we click over a super model that I'll grow tired of one day.
