Used pick up trucks for well under 5K

My husband has a collection of old cars, so I know these things. He's on the 'notify' email list for most of his vehicles so if Pull A Part gets one in, he can check it for parts and replace decrepit parts with slightly less decrepit parts.
On our most recent trip there, I noticed the cars and trucks for sale. These haven't been parted out, but are running. Not particularly beautiful.
Pull a Part isn't everywhere, but you can check the inventory of parted out vehicles AND the whole vehicles they have for sale. Most of the for sales have pictures. the prices are low. If I had teen aged son, he'd be given one to learn how to do things mechanical.

If there’s two full time working parents they want their son to be able to drive himself where he needs to go and not have a disabled vehicle sitting in the driveway.

Brings back good memories of my sons first truck. We got him one and had to pull the motor , rebuild it and reinstall it.
Those were good times. I smile and cry when I think of them. They are over never to be visited again. I lost my way and became stupid about a year later.

Recently he called me a sperm donor. I should have broken his jaw then an there.
But I was kind. I told him that was true. And I had great regrets and it was a tragedy.
The biggest one that The pussy wasn’t even worth it. Should have jacked into my hand and slung it on the floor.

My son pushes back at times, but I raised him to be a man and think for himself. So now, there are times HE wants to be the one with the answer, that handles his own business.
I give him the room to make his own decisions and mistakes, and am there to help fix things when he needs it. He knows I have his back. Has made him appreciative and respectful.
If someone spoke that way about my son, I'd punch them in the mouth... and he'd do the same for me. Even in jest; life is too short to poormouth your kids.
Hope you guys get your shite straight, and maybe get a project car to let him work on. You can supervise, and do the occasional "I can't get this right dammit!" problem.
