The world’s largest battery-electric aircraft ever flown, which boasts an impressive 106-foot wingspan, has just completed its maiden flight in the US, at just USD five worth of electricity.

It carries no passengers, halves it's range in cold temps, and gets the pilot to his destination in 12 days. But, the cost is only $60!

What’s that equal in horsepower?

Now fill it with people and luggage instead of helium and tell us the results

A quick google search returned ~1300 HP

Still interesting. Curious how the tech progresses for aircraft.

The article said it was a hybrid. Lithium batteries are heavy things. Interesting nontheless.

That is how I understood it as well.
I believe their market is short haul regional flights. Not sure how their math works that it consumed $5 in electricity for the flight.

The piloted aircraft remained in the skies for about 27 minutes and made it to a 1,100-foot altitude above ground level (AGL).
Wright brothers redux.

Btw, who writes “USD five” instead of $5?

They've now reduced it to $4 out of respect for Jayden Daniels

What about after private equity gets hold of it, then it will have same specs (sans pilot as that is a labor cost) and will cost 60 MILLION.

Waiting for the fully autonomous version....that's when the fun begins.
