They had the opportunity for this a LONG time ago but the women chose guaranteed money over the more incentivized mens contract. It was THEIR CHOICE to have less earning potential than the men's team in exchange for a guaranteed pay structure.

LOL. Good luck signing top talent.
Men will choose any of the leagues around the planet that pay as well or better.
And, for the record, I have never watched either team play, ever, so it doesn't really matter to me.

We are way past that. Now, they are stealing the men’s revenue

The year the won the championship they made more money than the men. Also, the entire women’s team had benefits similar to working for a Fortune 500 company. The men, not so much. How much maternity leave do the men get with this new deal.

I actively cheer against the USWNT.
I want them to get beat 10-0 every single game.
frick them and frick soccer.

I've been saying it for a long time. I wanted to lead on this. I wanted U.S. Soccer to lead on this," Cone told ESPN via a video call. "But we couldn't do it alone. We needed both the men's players and the men's [union] and the women's players and the women's [union] to come together in one room to negotiate a contract.
I think they needed the men and their union to agree more than the women to make this deal.
If they men did it willingly without leftist hedge funds pressuring corporate sponsors and so it then so be it, but the men’s World Cup is where bonuses are made internationally and even with men’s US team that isn’t dominant in international play.

The women's team will no longer have guaranteed salaries for some players and will have the same pay-to-play payment structure as the men's team has always had.
The above was also always part of the women’s problem. They accept guaranteed pay versus taking the risk of pay to play.
Women are still keeping some “unique” extra benefits.

There also are aspects of the women's deal that are unique as compared to the men's contract, including continued injury protection, child care and parental leave. But for the women, the new CBA marks a big change, as it moves away from guaranteed salaries and toward a pay-for-play model, which has long been a staple of the men's deal.

Man the takes in this thread are great. The people who have clearly never watched nor understand a thing about soccer but are triggered enough to comment make me laugh.

So the women actually have a better contract than the men. It was never about equality. Shocker.

They do put butts in seats and sell jerseys on par with men's team historically.
This is a myth perpetrated by the media. Yes, in World Cup winning years, the women's program capitalized with national victory tours where they would play in a few NFL stadiums and sell merch. But they never touched the men in a 4-year cycle.
I attended a women's game against Honduras in a non-World Cup year. The stadium was 20k capacity, but half the stadium was closed, and they only sold around 5k tickets on the far side so it looked somewhat packed for the TV cameras. Morgan, Lloyd, Rapinoe, etc all played too.
In this year's SheBelieves Cup, the Final between the USWNT and Iceland had a paid attendance of less than 7500 in another 20k seat stadium.
You think the men are pulling in attendance figures that low regularly?

Exactly. The people getting mad about this obviously dont know what they are talking about and think the men are somehow getting screwed now. They were offered the same deals last time... They men took the incentive based contract and the women took a lower money deal with a higher guaranteed minimum.
Obviously we dont care about womens sports but i assure you the mens team doesnt care about this
Always funny how riled up clueless posters get over something they can point to and go SEE ITS SOCIALISM
The women actually made more during covid because of taking the guaranteed money. They also lost their lawsuit. This is just the new bargaining agreement

Men took a paycut. They are splitting the revenue equally despite the men bringing in the majority. They're unionized so there's a revenue split between the players and association.
I hope we have the best male soccer player in the world and he refuses to play for the National team until he is paid his worth.

Fifa rankings don't mean shite the US was ranked as high as 6th in 2006 and we didn't win a game in the world cup

This is stupid. They are playing to represent their country, not to get rich.
The best player in the world makes $2.25 million per week. The players on us soccer team got $5k per game on their last contract

That kind of pay structure is not a representation of what this country is founded on. While I believe our country is the greatest in the world that doesn’t mean everyone should just blindly follow what the current view says is good/right.
