US was once a leader for healthcare and education — now it ranks 27th in the world.

This represents a significant decline from 1990, when it ranked sixth. The nation has seen a marked decrease in educational attainment - partly the result of reduced and poorly allocated funds for elementary and high schools.By improving its education and healthcare policies, the US could see faster economic growth.

Total bullshite. Do you actually believe you would get better healthcare in 27 other countries or do you always believe everything you read in the news?

We’re 27th!

This is exactly why monied folks all over the rest of the world send their kids to College here.

And when these folks get seriously ill, they come to the US for medical care.

Our healthcare and education blows for how wealthy of a country we are. No study needed.

Bullcrap. There are 4 countries who spend more and three of those are very close. Spending is not the issue

It’s a ploy to get us to willingly accept socialized healthcare.

The questions you should be asking are what measures are they using to determine that? Why do European countries alter their infant mortality rates by creating a “stillbirth” category? Do hospital complications take into account that other countries send many more people home on hospice to not have complications and die in the hospital?

I could go on and on. The study is designed to lead to one outcome.

Educate yourself

A number of the Euro countries don’t count a child as alive until a period of time - sometimes a day, a week, a month - after they have been born which leads to an artificially low infant mortality rate.

I believe you would get comparable healthcare at a much lower cost in those other countries. The US doubles pretty much every other developed country in per capita healthcare costs.

I’m not sure what the solution for our healthcare system is but it’s pretty clear that what we have now isn’t working.

I’m jealous of those other 26 countries that have nice homogenous populations

How do you know that?

We aren’t even comparing apples to apples. Look at the post above yours. Other countries don’t even calculate infant mortality remotely close to the way we do.

We are trying to save 23 week old premies with congenital heart defects, and if they die after a year on life support and 5 million dollars that’s a strike against us even though we are making huge strides in treating infants. I know this because 15 years ago a 23 week old premie was as good as dead

On the flip side, a normal healthy infant that dies shortly after birth can be classified as a “stillbirth” and not count for a European country.

So please explain to use how you are so sure...

I would rather be here than anywhere else in the world for healthcare, paying for it is a different story.

Pretty good considering other countries are smaller and more homogenous. With cultures that uniformly value learning and hard work and responsibility

Even if what you say is true, it’s a completely different topic to discuss if you think government can lower the cost of healthcare over the private sector and market capitalism.

The problem IS the third party payer (Insurance) so people don’t understand real costs and there isn’t competition.

The solution isn’t to introduce the worst, most inefficient third party (Government) into the equation.

Just think of how inefficient government is at bidding construction jobs? Now consider them doing that for a massively more complex and bigger healthcare system. Total and utter disaster.

Socialized healthcare will cost more than anything we have ever seen in this country. It’s just a matter of the method of payment.... taxes/debt vs. premiums
