As of last week, I have zero credit card debt, no truck note, and no mortgage. Feels great.

Does it factor people who pay everything on CC and pay it off each month to get points?

I bet most of that debt is on cards that don't have many if any reward options.

I'm sitting on almost a million points and have never paid interest. CC companies would never offer that shite if everyone was as responsible as you, me and our respectable friends.

With this in mind, I bet you purchase 1.5% (or whatever %) more than you would otherwise.

Quite the opposite. I know 100% that I will not pay interest on my monthly purchases. Your assumption is how poor people think. To kick can down the road by using credit. I am simply looking for an advantage. Gaming the system. I understand that if everyone did it my way the system would not exist. I would argue the majority of points crowd is in the same boat.

Why would someone purchase more with a credit card than a debit card?

Psychology.

That’s only $20 a card. This is just a scare tactic.

I can't find how they determine if you have a balance.
Depending on when you look at mine, I either have a relatively high balance or a 0 balance.

We use the CC for almost everything that doesn't charge a fee to use the card. We pay it off every month, collect cash back rewards, everybody is happy.

So the average american has about $2700 of CC debt. Not outrageous I suppose. I'd like to see this broken down by region/state and maybe include some median values.

If you can't afford to pay off your credit card at the end of the month then you have no business buying whatever you bought.

That's one piece of the puzzle to arriving at an 830 credit score...ahem.

I’m carrying some debt at 0%.. don’t really see the point in paying it off.

"The increase in credit card balances is consistent with seasonal patterns but marks the first time credit card balances re-touched the 2008 nominal peak," according to the report.

So in nominal terms it is at the same level, but when adjusted for inflation we aren't there yet... it would have to be over $1T to equal that.

That said, are these total balances (i.e., those of us who pay the balance in full each month) or carry over balances that accrue interest?

It's a racket I can't out my mortgage on my CC.

I have a credit card that is solely used for my monthly mortgage payments. I don't even carry it with me
