Maybe he is just a shitty parent and let the kid run off because he was distracted by the other adult

I’m just going with the likeliest scenario.

Well that sucks. I was hoping it wouldn't end up with the boy dead, but that's almost always the case when these types of stories pop up.

Yea, I just thought at first it was a male friend with him which made me feel like he was truthful because what friend is going to help you cover up a child murder. A sexual partner is different. Maybe she didn’t want to deal with an autistic kid, and she’s not the kids mom. Just makes me feel a lot less sure about his witness.

Sadly, there's a lot of cases where a special needs child becomes too much of a burden to the parents, and they see no other way out of it. An awful scenario.

Yep there’s one posted in this thread and I remember another from the last year or so. If the kid wasn’t special needs, I’d be more inclined to believe the dad sadly.

Maybe the dad and female were fricking around and lost track of the boy for an extended period.

Yeah. I used to volunteer at a special needs camp, and there were only two types of parents.

1. The most amazing people you will ever meet, who had clearly become better people by embracing such a challenge in life.
2. Completely broken and miserable people.

It was always bizarre to be in the room with both types on move-in day.

It takes comittment every second of your day. You'd think the love of their own child would overcome the weariness of it all, but some people just don't have it in them.

Hell, there's stories of people killing perfectly healthy kids for the sake of being single and carefree again. Heartbreaking for sure.

This is heart breaking. I've seen my neighbor's autistic son jet away from his dad several times. Makes me nervous a hell when I see them out. Just yesterday he bolted out into the street on the way to check the mail box.

If the dad did it then frick that worthless piece of shite. Hell is too good a place for those who harm defenseless children.

The boy kind of reminds me of my son. I can't even imagine being that dad. If he did it I don't know how he could live with himself. No matter how difficult the boy was all I'd be able to think about is how sweet and peaceful they look sleeping and what that poor boy must have gone through. Just terrible.

This is true. I am a special ed teacher and we call them "runners." They definitely exist. However, what doesn't match up is that the dad said this was a common thing, for the boy to run ahead. If he was a "runner" then the dad wouldn't allow him to even walk ahead without having his hand or having him on one of those child leashes. So either the dad made a huge mistake or he is lying about something.

Certainly a possibility.

But taking an autistic child out for a walk in a park would normally heighten your awareness of what the child is doing. I just don't believe the kid ran off and he couldn't catch up to him. I'd imagine as a parent of an autistic child, you are anticipating your child running off at any minute.

Doesn't look good for dad.

Maybe he didn't want what amounts to a lifetime sentence of caretaking, but he may well wind up with another kind of lifetime sentence.

Autistic behaviors are very difficult to comprehend, but they are almost never unpredictable. Most kids with autism tends to have very set behavioral patterns, thus it is unusual for them to do something unexpected or surprising... like suddenly running off, unless this kid has a history of running off.

The story from the father is suspicious in that he described something (suddenly running off) that a normal hyperactive kid would do. If his kid has a history of running off as a part his autistic behavioral pattern, his father should have anticipated and prevented it.

But his story is that the kid out ran him because the dad has a medical issue that prevents him from being able to run. So he basically power walked after the kid.

But they were with someone. Why couldn't she run after? Originally I didn't think the dad did it, but now I just don't know. That poor child.

Looks like a horribly tragic ending is coming regardless of how this happened.
