You have to be blind to lose sight of someone?

You don't have to be distracted for too long before a kid disappears. Look at your watch, look up at a tree, and gone.

Trust me, I know I have "lost" my two year old in our 1700 sq foot house multiple times. I was looking in the oven and shite wondering where the hell he was

That's what our daughter does all the time when we go on a walk. We go to slow for her so she'll run ahead, but we let her know never to go where we can't see her. So she'll either wait for us to catch up or run back.

I doubt your kid is autistic and nonverbal though.

What does that have to do with anything? You saying they can't be taught basic safety skills?

Your kid can shout back to you if you lose track of her and call out her name.

Awful, but I guess this had to be the likely end.

Everything.

Maybe not. Depends on the person. It's a cognitive disability. The child being nonverbal would seem to suggest that the child was on the more severe end of the spectrum.

Just like the other thread, 90% stupid arguing about nonsense and a few post with real information.

Sure

I still think the likeliest explanation is that the dad did it. It’s a weird story to believe that he got so far ahead that he got snatched up without a single trace.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt but someone in the other thread said the person who was with him was a female that wasn’t the mom. If that is true then I’m a lot more suspicious.

I don't believe the parents are still married.

Yes I have kids. And I know my six-year-old can’t out run me.

I get what you're saying here, but I sommer think it's ever been reported that he outran his dad. I understood that he let him run a little and then lost sight. I'm gonna withhold judgment on him for now bc all parents know how quickly kids can disappear, even inside the house. Prayers for the family.

I know we love to assume the worst here, but I'm saying that his story is totally plausible.

And are we assuming again the boy got snatched up? Couldn't he have run towards the creek, tripped and hit his head, and either drowned or died from the impact? Or maybe he got curious about the water, got in and just couldn't swim?

But the dad said he always runs ahead and stops. I’m not a doctor, but I believe autistic kids find relief in routine. Running to the creek would be breaking his routine.

Autistic children can have no sense of danger (or too much sense of danger). It is not uncommon for an autistic child to simply run off on his own without a care. It's how their minds operate. My son has high functioning autism, and when we go for a walk I tell him the rule is to hold my hand when we are walking, we typically walk around my neighborhood or around the pond. It takes a while to get them to understand what danger is.

I think the father has something to do with it. If you have an autistic child and you take him for a walk in a park, then you don't let him leave your sight. It doesn't make sense that the child just ran off and he couldn't catch up to him.

Did they walk trails a lot? If not, maybe a new experience was too exhilarating for him?

I don't know. Maybe it was the dad, but I'm not going to jump on that till some proof actually shows up.
