Oh no.
I was so hoping this wouldn't be the way this story ended.

Nope. Matter of time till they nail him for this with a body found. They already didn't believe his story

I honestly think no foul play will be discovered, the dad just did a poor job of keeping an eye on his son.
As a father of an autistic child, I can relate to a lot of what has been said. Any time we are in public, my eyes are locked in on my son at all times. If his son was known to do that, then the father should have been more aware. Poor parenting on the father’s part and his son is now dead because of it.
I had a very similar instance with my son a year ago. He was 3 at the time. I was outside doing some yard work and my in laws were over to visit. My father in law wanted to take my son for a walk. I sat and thought about it and opted to go with him. I almost let them go together but I thought better of it because he was not accustomed to my son and things that he does.
We get to walking and we come up to the pond. We were standing on the pier and my son was walking around the grass area. My FIL was not paying attention, and I saw my son make a B line to the pond. I knew what was about to happen. I jumped off the pier and into the water as my son hit the water. I had him in my arms as he slipped into the pond.
I thank God everyday that I was there, because I know if I wasn’t, I would have lost my son.

I agree with all of this. At the very least, the dad was negligent in taking care of his son in public. Even if he didn't kill the kid, it would not be a shock to me to learn that he was paying to much attention to his "friend" and lost sight of the boy a good bit longer than he's letting on.

Pretty obvious that the dad (most likely) did it.

My niece is autistic and she was nonverbal at 4.
My sister and her husband took all 3 kids to the children’s museum in Houston. My sister watched the 2 boys and my BIL was tasked with my niece. He was too busy looking at his phone. They lost her a hour and a half. I felt so bad for my sister. She was crying in there. She told him she would divorce him if he don’t find her.
It’s really hard to find them when they are nonverbal
I’m hoping that it was just an accident in this case. This breaks my heart. My niece is so wonderful despite her condition.

You are wrong.

I have an autistic nephew, non verbal
Whenever he sees water he goes right to it, he loves being in the water
My BIL has a pool and last XMAS my nephew saw the pool and had a total meltdown because they wouldn’t let him swim (too cold)
Tragic how so many times these autistic kids get away and they find them drowned
Happened here in Houston a few years ago at Marcus Camby’s House when his nephew wandered off and drowned in a community pond

How does this child get a mile away from where he running from?

One news story yesterday said the child was found four miles away from the park.
There's also the guy who told them where to look who was helping the father search for the child at the park.
Yesterday's reporting may have been full of bad info, but it's worth listening for.

Was riding in a SxS with my 5 yo.
Got stuck in a creek
5 yo gets upset and says she is going to find pawpaw.............10 miles away.
Before I could even fit up the creek bank she was gone.
I had no idea in what direction she went. Scary thing is neither did she she just bolted in a random direction she thought may be the way back.
I screamed to the top of my lungs frantically for what seemed like an eternity until she just appeared. She said when she stopped running she heard me and came back.
I don’t know the facts here but I do know that it takes seconds for a kid to disappear in the woods and it is terrifying.

That museum is big but 1.5 hrs?? And they have tons of security to boot. I'm sure your BIL and sis were freaking out.
