Sources have confirmed a body has been found in a creek across from Rankin Lake Park, where the search 6-year-old Maddox Ritch was reported missing.
Officials have blocked off the area near Robinson-Clemmer road and Old Dallas Highway.
Original story:
quote:
Ian Ritch and a friend were with Maddox last Saturday at the Gastonia Park when Ian said his son Maddox decided to take off and got too far away from him. Maddox hasn't been seen since.
quote:
Police said Maddox was with his father and another adult, who officials do not initially identify, before he disappeared at the park around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
"They were walking around the lake,” Gastonia spokeswoman Rachel Bagley said. “They got around to the back side of the lake. He started running, according to the parents, and when they started running after him, they lost sight of him, and no one has seen him ever since."
Maddox is autistic and nonverbal -- he doesn't talk -- but officials said there is a special team with the FBI that is highly trained and experienced in mysterious missing children's cases that are working to find him.

Shoot, this sucks. How dad let the kid get away from him is beyond me.

How in the hell does a grown man let a six-year-old autistic boy run away from him and not be able to catch up with him?

You must not have kids because its honestly not that difficult for a 6 year old to hide or escape.
Autism doesn't mean he was low IQ, in fact the kid could have been IQ.

I truly truly hope that’s not the case.

Yes I have kids. And I know my six-year-old can’t out run me.

I think you a word.

I think the dad did it too.
But his story is that the kid out ran him because the dad has a medical issue that prevents him from being able to run. So he basically power walked after the kid.

He sounds fat, but he isn’t.
How fast can a 6 year old run, anyways?

quote:shite. We now make sure the doors are locked AND deadbolted when we are inside becuase our 2 year old can disappear in the blink of an eye inside the house. He is figuring out doors now, so he could easily open one up and poof, gone

Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Pretty damn fast
I think the dad did it though. Sadly this sounds like a recent case outside Nashville where an autistic, non-verbal, young boy was killed by his dad. He reported him missing in a very similar way.
I'm not sure he's even told them where the body is, but they eventually found some evidence that proved he did it.

Well even if the dad can’t run or whatever, what was his friend doing?
The story of “he runs ahead and then waits on me to catch up” just sounds laughable.

That's what our daughter does all the time when we go on a walk. We go to slow for her so she'll run ahead, but we let her know never to go where we can't see her. So she'll either wait for us to catch up or run back.
ETA So it's a safe assumption IMO, if the father didn't actually kill his child, that he didn't think that he needed to chase the boy thinking he'd be waiting or returning. So the people claiming that no 6 year old could outrun him are missing the point.
