If I was dropping $1000-1200 on an Aquaracer, I'd look at an Oris Aquis TT1, Longines Hydroconquest, or Stowa Prodiver.
Tag is, by far, the most overpriced of the three when comparing what you'll end up with.

Bruh.
Tudor is owned by the same holding company as Rolex. It was established in 1926, by Hans Wilsdorf (same guy who created Rolex). Their original styling was very similar to Rolex (the companies actually shared much of the same components), but now Tudor has it's own styling and components.
Tudor is more highly regarded than Tag

There’s some really nice TAGs on Amazon for $800-900. It’s silly to spend that much when you get a $200-300 Seiko/Victorinox but if you want a Formula 1 TAG Amazon is the place.

I believe Tudor is/was a subsidiary of Rolex. They have some awesome pieces IMO. The black bay seems to be holding its value pretty well.
I personally would pass on the Tag.

I am not a huge fan of Tag Heuer and the only one I have is a Monaco, which I do indeed like. That said I like Tags more than many watch geeks.
The Caliber 5 in the automatic Aquaracer is an ETA 2824-2 movement. This is a standard "Swiss" 28,800 beat per hour three hand movement. It is considered a workhorse. The movement is COSC certified so the average daily rate should be from -4 to +6 seconds per day. This is fairly normal for entry-level Swiss mechanical watches, Rolex and Omega among others have much tighter specifications than COSC. It will have some basic finishing and looks OK with a display back.
If you like the style of the watch it is a good solid watch and you should be able to find it in the gray market for between 1700 and 1800 bucks. Personally, I would suggest you check out the Tudor Black Bay before making your final choice.

A couple of notes about the Oris TT1 and their dive watches in general. They tend to wear rather thick which bothers some and not others. They also have a proprietary band connection so you can't put them on generic rubber bands nor NATO straps. Other than that they are good watches. Most of their three hand watches use the Sellita SW200 movement which is a ETA 2824-2 copy with some very minor changes.

i have an aquaracer adn it keeps perfect time so long as i wear it everyday as mine is the one that charges from wearing. my problem is i only wear it for after work items so most of the time i have to reset. I have heard good things about the box that keeps the watch vibrating so it keeps time the whole time.
i like mine overall, its a white face. next watch will be a bretling though.

6 years in on this one with absolutely no issues. I have yet to send it in to be serviced.

This. I've had mine almost 15 years. Wore it as an everyday watch. Stopped wearing it about 3 years ago. Losing time more and more each year and constantly resetting the time will wear the crown. I would not recommend.

Ive had a Tag for 10 years. Mine is quartz though. Automatics keep shitty time.

Aquaracer with white face here. I love it and it takes a beating as my daily wear. Very versatile watch in terms of wearability. I did have an issue where the entire mechanism needed to be replaced a little more than a year after I got it, which was pretty disappointing but it's been great since then.
It was a gift and I do kind of regret not going Oris or something else since technically I was given the choice, but I was dumb and younger then. It seems a good stepping stone watch into Tudor/Rolex territory.
Tudor Black Bay is next on the list.

Save up another year or two if you can and get a Rolex. All that really matters is what look you prefer more

I’ve had one (quartz) since 2000. Still looks great and keeps flawless time.
