How many times did you have it serviced in 15 years? Mechanical watches need routine service at 15 years the oils would have dried out and you were getting metal on ruby without a lubrication layer, this causes higher friction and the watch loses more and more time. It also does damage to the hard parts as well. Figure service every 5-6 years for a daily worn watch. I extend my service interval to about 7-8 years but any particular watch in my collection gets worn a maximum of 1 day every 6 weeks or so.
In any case mechanical watches don't keep perfect time, and have to be reset periodically if you wear them daily. Some are better than others and it isn't just brands or quality of movement it can simply be the specific movement that is more accurate than most.

A friend of mine has a quartz Tag where the battery ruptured and ruined the internals. I would not spend more than a few hundred dollars on a quartz watch.

Lots of dumb in this thread.
If you are complaining about losing 5-6 seconds a month with your automatic watch, you probably don't deserve it.
If you are complaining about your automatic watch losing time after 15 years with no service, you probably don't deserve it. When your car runs shitty after 15 years without changing the oil or doing any maintenance do you bitch about what a heap of junk it is???
Complaining about some watch being "Subby" seems foolish when probably 80+% of the watches sold today are in some way inspired by the Sub.
TAG makes decent watches. As others have told you, Tudor, Oris, Seiko, etc make really nice watches that seem to be in your ballpark. If you haven't already, check out the Watchuseek Affordables forum. Some very nice/cool watches to be found in there. One think I don't really have in the collection right now would be a Seiko Cocktail Time. Really cool classic/vintage vibe.
