cant set any sort of bad precedent on this such as "i thought i was in the right place, so i thought i had rights of self-protection within my home"

St Lucia is an old French colony full of African people. They speak creole and French and their food is delicious. We had a blast there.

Dallas News

Officer Amber Guyger had just ended a 15-hour shift when she parked on the wrong level of the South Side Flats garage— the fourth floor instead of the third, where she lived, according to the official who has direct knowledge of the case but is not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Ive been sleep deprived before during long road trips, never has it caused me to forget where I lived or even what my destination was

quote:

She went to the door she thought was hers but was one floor too high. The four floors of the South Side Flats in the Cedars look the same, with concrete floors and tan doors. A light fixture to the side of each door displays the apartment number

saw another report where it said she'd have to walk past 15 or so different apts just to reach his? Did she try her key card in other doors?

quote:

Guyger, who was still in uniform, put her key in the door, which was unlocked, and the door opened, the official said. The lights were out. She saw a figure in the darkness and thought her apartment was being burglarized, the official said. Guyger pulled her gun and fired twice.

even with the lights off, I know where my furniture is. She also missed the red mat in front of his door

quote:

When she turned on the lights, she realized she was in the wrong apartment. Jean, who worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, was shot once in the chest.

For someone so tired, she sure sobered up pretty quickly and turned on the water works to look distraught.

Im really not sure what to make of this and how she came to kill this man. My first thought was that she was drunk or high, but would she have made the drive home or been able to park correctly being that wasted?

She stayed a floor above this guy. She's a fairly new resident to the complex too. What are the chances she got upset maybe with this Botham Jean having loud friends over or playing loud music (which hasn't been reported) and they had a verbal confrontation in the past about it and she set this whole thing up to murder this guy to solve her problem. Far fetched, but I'm grasping at straws at this point to understand this

Jesus Christ people. If a cop wanted to murder someone (over loud music LoL) they would find a MUCH better way to do it than to shoot the person, call 911 themselves and say "I thought it was my apartment."

The official explanation is entirely plausible and makes perfect sense.

Your alternative theory is ludicrous.

Totally plausible to me. With the current climate and police being able to get off by saying "I feared for my life" or "I made a mistake", she could have likely decided to go this route and knowing all she has to do is give an excuse and it would be widely accepted by her peers.

It's called an adrenaline rush , natural reaction to shooting someone.

Of all the dumb comments made in this thread, you may have just made the dumbest. Congrats.

Ahh she has probably been fed up with the noise he has been making directly above her. Couldn’t sleep and went upstairs and shot the dude.

Or you know she could call the police and register a noise complaint... come on... who would risk all this and go through all this elaborate shite just for loud music? You guys are really grasping at straws.

Seems like an unfortunate thing that happened all the way around but that doesn't mean the lady cop shouldn't face charges.

No doubt, this is a no brainer. If you're a cop and want someone dead, that's what bags of cocaine and throw away pieces are for.

so we have officially reached the "blame the unarmed black man for me killing him" portion of this program. Imagine entering into someone's else's apartment illegally and your the one whose afraid for their life. Hope she rots away forever for killing Botham Jean

If this woman was this disoriented to not be able to distinguish her apt from another person's, then she was never fit to be a cop in the first place.

How is it too dark in the apartment that you cant tell its not yours but your still able to see a man supposedly "not" put his hands up and squeeze two off square into his chest?

Update from arrest warrant

LINK

quote:

Arrest warrant: Dallas officer thought Botham Jean was burglar, he ignored ‘verbal commands'

Guyger told investigators she thought she was walking into her apartment that night and inserted her electronic door key into the keyhole. In actuality, she was directly above her apartment.

Since the door was slightly ajar, Guyger managed to get into the Botham Jean’s apartment when she inserted her key, according to the arrest warrant. After entering the apartment that was nearly completely dark, Jean went to see who was in his apartment.

“Believing she had encountered a burglar, which was described as a large silhouette, across the room in her apartment; Guyger drew her firearm, gave verbal commands that were ignored by Complainant Jean,” the arrest warrant said.

Guyger fired two shots, hitting Jean once in the torso. She then turned on the lights inside the apartment and called 911 for help.

“Upon being asked where she was located by emergency dispatchers, Guyger returned to the front door to observe the address and discovered she was in the wrong apartment,” the arrest warrant said.

Sure she did. There is likely no way to prove this. If it’s dark how’s he suppose to show her his hands without her freaking it.

Murdering someone is like taking a valium to me, I'm usually completely sedated right after I kill someone

What the cop did was wrong and she will go to jail. I don't understand the idea that it is incomprehensible to do, I've gone to the wrong place plenty of times. Especially in college drunk or late at night in new areas I did not know well. Its not by any means an excuse to kill someone, and she will go to jail for it.

I just don't understand the idea she should rot in jail forever or that she is a complete idiot for doing it.

I am by no means blaming the victim here, but it she was able to enter his place by the very unfortunate event that his door was left slightly ajar. So it took multiple bad luck events to happen for this to go down.
