they are reporting this morning that he is an outdoorsman, having spent 3 months, roughing it on the Appalachian trail. The trail start would be aboot 11 hours from his parents home. This would be somewhere they could have easily gotten to on a 3-day camping trip. They could have even gone a little more north on the trail, dropped him off, and leisurely made it back home.
