That is idiotic. I've dug foxholes big enough for a family of graves with that exact shovel.

I had a great uncle who was a master plumber. One of the lines he loved to use was, "I've dug more and farther in my life with a screwdriver than most people have with a shovel." As a plumber he worked under houses most of the time where space really was at a premium.

Probably would have attracted a park ranger camping in a stream bed.
Most of those national parks don’t allow you to camp within a stream bed or too close to a body of water. They don’t want the ecosystems damaged and there is always concerns of flash flooding if you had a freak rainstorm anywhere upstream.
They want you to stick to campgrounds or back country camping areas marked on maps for the most part.

If you click on the link I poster there is a video of them finding her body. You can’t identify the body, but it looks like they are focused on one particular bush. It is pretty sad to watch. What is not known is if that is where she was left/buried initially, or if an animal/scavenger could have moved her. Mountain lions will hide and cover up a meal with leaves, sticks, etc. if she was covered in rocks, that would seem to be done 100% by a person.

Even if eaten by animals there would still be some remains and clothing one would assume.

They haven't verified it's her yet, meaning she's unrecognizable. So there might not be much left.
