By the morals AT THE TIME THEY WERE COMMITED, they were totally and completely justified via their religion.
Just as today, the Muslim extremist are, in their own mind, totally justified in their mass murders and terrorist plots.
Today, in western civilization, we accept that murder, even in the name of god, is absolutely horrible. If the crusades were to happen today, it would be horrible and a slight against Christianity, just as the modern jihad is horrible and a slight against Islam.
Sorry you still are unable to realize the difference between modern morals and accepted behavior and the morals and accepted behavior of the Middle Ages.

but it wasn't just Muslims.... with the Constantinian shift, Christianity went from a persecuted to a persecuting religion... in other words, they weren't being on the defensive, as much as they were going on the offensive, in terms of violence and religious belief... and the whole "just war" bullshite was borrowed from non-Christian sources, Plato and Cicero...
hell, the very early church and it's followers were pacifist, and opposed military service at all, even in the Holy Land...
and the Inquisition had NOTHING to do with Muslims, it had everything to do with heretics, so there wasn't an "invasion" they were defending themselves from... they were systemically eradicating those that opposed the brand of Christianity they were selling...
not sure how any religion can really, truly ever, no matter the time, justify killing in the name of God, when it's absolutely ant-ethical to what they actually believe and teach...

It was an intellectual invasion that challenged the power of the church. When the power at be faces a force that puts their power at jeopardy, they tend to try to snuff that out before it grows.

Exactly right! You make our point. War was not a tenet of Christianity. It took 1000 years to get to the idea of Crusading, and the crusading period only lasted about 300 years.
Islam was born of violence and has never ceased, and the cradle of Islam today would gleefully slice your head off for reading a bible in public.
Thus, it is false equivalence to compare the two religions. The violence of Islam is not attributed to a few fringe groups who bastardized the religion.
