Why would I read the 1000’s of emails from mechanical and electrical engineers along with their project counterparts when all they do is spec out equipment and cable trays. 95% of my inbox is a steaming pile of dogshit.

I have filters set up. My folders are set up by priority. High priority folder gets replied right away. Daily Priority gets a reply before I leave. Low priority gets an "eventually". Adverts go to the external folder.

More former director at a Fortune 10 company had outlook set up so he would have to be in the To: field or it would never even come to his inbox. If he were in CC, he'd never see it. That took his daily email intake down to about 100 emails instead of a thousand.
When I was at that job, it got to where nobody would read any email unless they were "@"'d in it. Too many damn emails flying around.
I'm at a small company now, I get maybe 3 or 4 emails a day. It's so refreshing.

I get 200 actionable emails a day. Is what it is. I hate it but I’m the nerve center for a lot of areas. I can’t afford not to read something.

Yea sorry but I’m guilty of this. I can see the message in preview mode and know within 10 words whether it’s worth opening.
If you have time to read and neatly categorize every single thing that comes into your inbox, you aren’t busy enough in my opinion. That would take me at least an hour a day to organize which is an hour I’m not providing value.

How big is the company you work for and how many emails do you get a day? I’ve worked for two global companies that I swear somehow must factor in part of the board members bonuses based on the company wide emails sent out.
I work for a global company also and probably over half of the emails are pure junk nobody cares about. It makes it really easy to accidentally overlook an actual work email

I don't pretend to know the dynamics of everyone's work e-mails - I don't get near that many but I do get over 100 a day typically and often more. To say I read them all would be misleading but it's easy to tell what's junk and what's legit and I glance at the title on the junk and delete right away, but there are never any unread e-mails in my box they are either read and kept or deleted.

Outllok will, if set up to do so, provide the first line or so of an incoming email....if it is unimportant or something I have already responded to or I otherwise judge its not worth my time to read in its entirety I don't. If the sender needs something they will call or ask in person....at least 75% of work emails are junk and of the remaining 25% about half are follow ups of conversations. In my experience.
