No because the school she fraudulently got her kids in isn’t in the UC system

I was supposed to study for the ACT? How do you study for a comprehensive assessment test? Reread all your high school books?

How is that a bad thing to gauge?
I don't know if you remember taking the ACT but they had some really stupid subjective questions
What would be a better title for this short story? Um, that's not a fricking legit question. That's completely subjective.

I think the test are important. It's the only way to separate an A student from John Ehret and an A student from Jesuit. There's no comparing the schools so the ACT and SAT tells us the truth.

[quote]Not surprising. They need warm bodies right now to shore up that top heavy piece of shite.[/quote
The UC system is one of the most, if not the most, competitive and selective public university system in the country. They don’t “need warm bodies.” Haven’t looked into why they are doing this but they didn’t get to where they are by making foolish decisions.

If those tests are worthless, then all tests are worthless.
What do we do then?

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen any time soon. They'll get bailed out rather than fix their business model. It's going to be a long, drawn out, expensive death.
No. Here in NC, we've been through round after round of budget cuts over the last 10 years. Depts have lost almost half of operating budgets, positions (especially middle management) and R&R money.
Not immune.

The prep courses are more for understanding time management and familiarizing students with the format of questions they expect to see. I can't imagine those classes can give a person more than 2-3 point increase as there isn't a way to actually study for tests like the ACT

Over 20 years ago, how old are you lawyer boy, and no I didnt use one, I see reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. Not a good look for a lawyer.

yeah you can study for portions of the SAT (at least the traditional SAT when rote memorization of vocabularoy was a huge portion of it) but the ACT wasn't really a "study" test. you could practice taking it, but the required knowledge barrier was pretty low.

That tends to happen when you're right smack dab in the middle of one of the most densely populated parts of the country.

You probably should.

They're now making foolish decisions based on their previously accrued reputation. This won't last forever.

No they aren't. You just show up and take them.

yeah this is all because, no matter what they do, the way we value/rank colleges has put them in rarefied air
i laughed at the posts earlier about how "strenuous" they are. the hardest part about being a student at an elite college (especially in non-STEM fields) is getting in. after that, it's busy work and grade inflation (which they justify based on...how hard it is to get in
it's a rigged system which allows leeway to decrease the quality of your student body without a negative response of the public

also let me be clear. my argument above isn't some indirect defense of LSU and lesser-rated institutions
i went to LSU b/c i was poor and it was extremely cheap. i sacrificed going to much better schools b/c i couldn't afford them
while at LSU, i was almost always in classes with total fricking idiots that should never have sniffed a JUCO let alone an allegedly good educational institution (LSU wasn't rated that bad when i went). upper level psychology classes would always blow my fricking mind at how dumb people, WHO HAD BEEN IN COLLEGE 2-4 YEARS, could be. really taught me how worthless a college degree could be

I had a friend who was a total slacker and not all that bright rock a 2.1 GPA two years into Chemical Engineering. He switched into Business after going on academic probation, and never made less than an A in any class after the switch. Told me it was basically impossible to fail and that the vast majority of the classes were rooted in common sense.
That anecdote was the first time I started to believe that college was a waste of time and money outside of STEM fields.
