The fact that the guy is a doctor shouldn't really be factored in unless he's performing a surgery the next day. If he's some quack who runs a clinic writing prescriptions for opiates then I don't see how he's any more of a priority. The more I see of this guy, the more I understand exactly how it came to the point hat he did. That's someone who could use a good tazing.

This was a letter to employees that presumably got leaked.

What? It isn't. I've been pulled off a flight before after ticketed (confirmed standby due to IROP) because a confirmed passenger on that flight made his tight connection.

It happens, albeit very rarely.

Was that the respect or the dignity when they dragged the elderly customer who had paid for his seat and boarded it down the aisle?

Oscar is a douche.

This is the kicker. By doubling down here, the CEO is just encouraging more people to look into how airlines do the shady dealings of overselling tickets.

Yeah I don't get the upside for him.

Got a fancy collective word for "scanning boarding pass, walking through jet bridge, stowing luggage and buckling seatbelt?

Or i just have to wait til the door closes.

United screwed up by having the plane boarded and then started offering compensation. This should of happened before everyone boarded. Easier to bump someone at the gate. They should also offer more compsensation until some one volunteers. There is always a price once high enough people will take.

This is on United no matter how the doctor acted. Terrible PR management.

Why would he have to miss an entire day of work? He couldn't have taken the money, rented a car to make the short drive to Louisville and seen his patients on time the next day?

lets assume he checked a bag

That's ~30minutes to get the bag

Then another hour to go across the airport and wait in line to rent a car.

Then the to the rental lot.

So that's an added hour and half basically just to get out the airport.

Then a 4.5 hour drive on Sunday night back to airport to get his car.

So he probably back after midnight when he could have been in bed.

According to TMZ this doctor was convicted of swapping drugs for sex. Doesn't change anything, but confirms this dude was a slime ball.

Politely asked to deplane

If I purchase a ticket an am allowed on the plane, I would make a scene as well. Its comical to me that people are giving the Airline a pass because "This happens all the time ". Paying customers shouldn't be forced to suffer the consequences of poor business practices.

Dr. David Dao was charged in 2005 with 98 felony drug counts for illegally prescribing and trafficking painkillers. Prosecutors claimed Dao fraudulently filled prescriptions for hydocodone, Oxycontin and Percocet.

Dr. Dao was also convicted on 6 felony counts of obtaining drugs by fraud and deceit and in 2005 was given 5 years probation.

Dao was also convicted for writing prescriptions and checks to a patient in exchange for sex.

In February, 2005, Dr. Dao surrendered his license to practice medicine in Kentucky. In 2015 the medical board lifted the suspension and allowed him to practice medicine again. Last year, the medical board imposed restrictions on his right to practice. He can only practice internal medicine in an outpatient facility one day a week.

No wonder he had to be on that plane.

Let's get one thing clear, that the CEO admitted to:

THIS WAS NOT AN OVERBOOKING SITUATION

When they boarded the aircraft, they had seats for everyone. After the aircraft was boarded, 4 crewmembers decided (or were told) they needed to get on the flight.

How in the heck does that happen? Crew schedules are made in advance. I know flights are delayed, things happen, etc. But at that point, United needs to find another option for those employees. They are a freaking airline at their home base... they could have found another way.

So everyone, please stop saying this is just another random, daily overbooking. that is 100 percent untrue.

That may be true, but apparently their PR Dept is light years ahead of United's.
