Seems like a good idea, as long as they allow kids and a parent to board at the same time.

Late coming window sitters are gonna be in a whirl of fussing.

Hopefully a family of three sitting in consecutive seats doesn’t have to board in three separate groups.

In theory they should all be in one boarding group if the tickets are booked together.

Im the exact opposite.. i almost never bring a carry-on, just a backpack .. and ill check a large suitcase.. fortunately though, i am not a ‘frequent flyer’ anymore.. Just speaking for myself personally, as an aisle guy myself- the only time i foresee this causing a problem is when I fly internationally, b/c then i check a large suitcase, bring a backpack AND a carry-on suitcase…. In that situation, i guess i will just have to make absolutely sure that every single thing i might need on the typical 15-20 hr flight, i have with me in my backpack since odds are they’ll make me check my carryon due to lack of bin space .

Pretty logical and I agree with it even though I normally pre-board.

If a standard suitcase-sized check bag was included in the ticket price, and carry-ons had to fit below the seat in front of you, a lot of bullshite would be avoided. Then board back to front. You wouldn’t even have to worry about this window vs aisle BS. Having the majority of luggage overhead was a dumb move. Charge for that space.

They should assign each overhead space to a "priority" ticket, and only sell the number of that type of ticket that can fit on a plane. If you have x luggage overhead spaces, sell x "priority economy" or whatever you want to call it tickets. All other tickets for the plane are essentially economy basic where you cannot bring a carryon.

As no one reads articles, they won't split up groups. Boarding will be based on earliest position...

From article...

quote:

Customers traveling in groups on the same economy reservation will be assigned the same boarding group based on the “highest applicable boarding group,” according to the memo.

The only reason to board first is for overhead space (other than getting drinks in business/first). Who wants to be on the plane longer than they have to.

Fix the overhead space issue and you wouldn’t have as many people jockeying to get on the plane.

Can’t wait to be seperated from my child. I would assume they took that into account but this is the OT …

Nothing in the new rules that says you have to board with your group. So if you child has a window seat, they can just board with you when it's time for the middle seats to board.

I just want to know what the IL stands for in WILMA.

quote:

United Airlines has previously tested the WILMA method before and said it can save up to two minutes of boarding time per flight, according to the memo.

So an additional 2 minutes to sit at the gate with the a/c off?

JetBlue has always boarded planes back-to-front (except for ballers and special needs). It runs so much more smoothly than other methods I've seen. Glad to see another airline re-evaluating how they board customers.

This makes a lot of sense actually

Why can't 737 type jets have multiple entrance/ exits?
Obviously would require changes in plane design, but this could have been done decades ago and would be standard and cut loading/ unloading time in half.

I rarely check bags. If I'm somewhere for less than a week, I can get it all into a normal-sized carry-on (frick waiting for luggage).

That said, I would pay for that if it caused enough others to not bring carry-ons.

I always thought that the plane should be boarded back to front.

It's my understanding that the plane could possibly become tail heavy, causing all sorts of problems. Most modern planes have tricycle landing gear, it's possible the front gear could be unloaded with some current day fatties siting in the back.

This is the way it always should have been done. Going to piss a lot of families off with children though.
