So what’s he like?

When I saw the story, I felt bad for the guy. But then I gave it some thought and the CEO for United Health seems like he could be one of the worst humans imaginable.

Large group and he was a virtual participant. I work in consulting and focus on healthcare a lot and they were a client when he worked in their government sector I think. Seemed nice enough and when he spoke he seemed intelligent. It would be a lie to say I know him more than that

One of my classmates who did not match into a residency works for United as a medical review officer.

This is also a huge problem - many of their medical reviewers don't practice or are retired and trying to get extra cash on the side. They are mercenaries and beholden to the "guidelines" of United or Evicore, whether appropriate or not. It's shameful - they went into medicine to help people and are now directly involved in delaying or denying care.

These "peer to peers" in my field often are initiated by some nurse who doesn't read my note, then the MD to discuss the case isn't even in the same field and has no clue what is appropriate. Does it get approved? Mostly yes but we don't have time for that bullshite.

To make it to that role the guy was very likely a scum bag. Not deserving of an execution but likely not a good person

Yeah, that's exactly what I said and insinuated. Not a leap at all. Good job.

As society breaks down, people target those in power. Scary, but I think we need to buckle up because it's only going to get worse.

This. We are going to need very strong leadership to see us through the next 10 years.

And OMLandshark is belligerent and dumb enough to do it

OML is a smart dude that gets worked up and goes too far. I can see the logic most of the time. Fauchi is a bad dude that, at the very least, cost a lot of people time with their dying loved ones, and at the very most helped fund Covid. It doesn't take a lot of thinking, if you believe the latter, to land on treason. His communication style tends to lean towards the dramatic flair, so instead of "Fauchi committed treason, and should be legally tried and executed." It turns into more passionate rants.

WTF?

ETA: When did the idea that healthcare is supposed to be charity become so damn pervasive? Healthcare is an industry just like any other industry.

I assume the poster was referring to how many hospitals are nonprofit in the US, but perhaps I'm assuming too much.

The CEO might have survived but he had to be taken to a hospital in Cleveland because everything closer was out of network.

You started a thread during covid advocating for posters to drop whatever they were doing and take up arms against anyone who tried to impose covid mandates.

They just say tried to prescribe medication X but insurance denied and leave it at that.

They don't check to see if the script was actually written? Isn't this essentially lying to the insurance company?

You have to write the script, call it in, or send it in electronically to a pharmacy before insurance has a chance to approve or deny it. The prescriptions get written but they do not get filled. If insurance denies a medication and the patient says they cannot afford it then the provider does not get "dinged" if the patient's condition does not improve as long as they go with an alternative. For example. I was reviewing some of the charts from the NPs that I supervise and this is literally what the NP wrote for diabetes "Hemoglobin A1C 9.2%. Prescribed Ozempic at last visit but insurance denied. Encouraged patient to cut back on sugar intake." What the NP wrote is technically sound but it is not going to work. I amended the chart to say "Hemoglobin A1C reduction despite max dosage of metformin and Farxiga. GLP-1 agonist is medically warranted as next step to achieve additional hemoglobin A1C reduction." I had the prior authorization person at my office rerun the claim and United approved it. Which reminds me I need to go tell that NP to check the patient's chart and see what I did to get Ozempic approved for the patient and to start doing that.

It was the thread where you later admitted to still masking if it was convenient (i.e., you still masked on planes because driving wasn’t convenient enough to stick to your anti-masking principle)
