Costa Rica is a way better choice for expats than Belize imo

lots of options in the area as well as other parts of the world, Belize is provably popular with a lot of people because it's very close to the US

I looked into it a few times last couple of years … more for a long term place when lsu athletics were out of season ..
lots of nice things.. nature.. beaches .. jungles.. rivers.. you can own your real estate.. banking set up for easy us currency .. language.. they have a few beach areas that are extremely nice… only concern I had was medical.. you could fly to Mexico or South America for that.. or come back to states if planned correctly … they are upfront.. low low taxes but that means low government stuff like roads etc..
it was on my short list.. focused on a different area at the moment that appears more in line to what I am looking for ….

It's a very tiny place. At some point you are going to feel a bit constricted there, I would think.

you don't want to get in trouble there, from what I was told by a local, the one prison/jail? has no heat or ac, or screens, I believe he said there is no bail, if you're arrested you're in there with criminals of all types until your trial, haven't confirmed that, but that's what a local guy told me

I was supposed to fly to Belize City on Friday and then take a Maya Island Air puddle jumper to the island we were staying at where my wife's uncle is building his vacation house.

Does your uncle rage against gentrification of historically black and brown neighborhoods here in the US and think that those people and their cost of living should be "protected"? Because he's the gentrifier to the Belizean people and their cost of living. I bet he's also going to move down there and expect them to have the same values that he has...he's basically a "cultural colonizer".

take the tourists and white people out of Belize and you’d have Haiti. Belize is a tourist state no different than any Caribbean island you can point to on a map. Their only other exchange is the export of natural resources and agricultural goods.

the belizean government is very (very) emigration friendly and it is one of the very few desirable places where private property ownership is respected and protected

Do many cruise ships make ports of call in Belize?
I don't recall that they do.

Im not real familiar with the geography of Belize.. but to me it seems like saying Baton Rouge La is one of the most crime ridden cities in America while typing that from your new house in a neighborhood in Prairieville.. I mean, both are true .

I haven't looked it up but I'd assume maybe Belize has a lot of tranny ladyboys, like Thailand or something?
