Naya Rivera's body was found recently and the dive crews needed her geolocation to give them a general grid where to search.
Family members chatted with Rivera via FaceTime when she was on the boat, and search crews watched those videos for clues to where she might have gone down, Ayub said.

How exactly did search crews watch the videos of the FT calls? They certainly are not saved on your phone.

I think it's just bad word choice. They probably watched the location data to determine where she was.

Not sure, but I know that Apple is pretty serious about consumer privacy. I think there was a high profile case recently where they refused to help law enforcement access someone's phone.

Apple saves every single thing you have ever done on an iPhone

Exactly. Only the naive or unobservant don't realize your phone is listening to everything you say. That has been the case for years. And I doubt that "surveillance" is ONLY being used to sell you candy bars or vacations

I agree. FaceTime calls are encrypted so Apple wouldn't be able to see them even if they did save the calls.

I have been wondering how they used this as well. They probably used the location data from the call and not the actual video itself.

Battery life would be 2 hours and the amount of global disc space to save all of those recordings for analysis would have to be at least 1000x what it currently is.

Every tech business is. That is, until the highest bidder is determined.
The problem with police and search warrants? They don't pay much for their access.
