The wagon version you posted is extremely rare and is awkward.
I added wagon to my post.

But the sedan version is IMO gorgeous and far, far head of its time. Keep in mind that this was designed in the early 1970s by a tiny, broke British car company
Ok I'll admit for a 70's car the sedan isnt bad. I think the wagon came out in the 80's

The new BMW 7 series is ugly af. I'm a bit of a Bimmer fanboy, but damn this thing looks like shite. Not sure what they were thinking here.

We loving referred to it as his Pontiac Asscrack.
My dad worked for a tire company in Ohio and was always meeting with folks at the Big Three to potentially get tires on new cars out the factory. Anyway, he told me that even the folks at GM referred to the Aztec as the Pontiac Asscrack.

I had one of those in HS.
Basically this one except emerald green. I had fun in it, ugly piece of crap that it was

My wife had a PT Cruiser when we were dating and it left us stranded multiple times
*gasp*

Less than 60,000 miles and it was a total basket case.
You were quite fated for each other. I would have been a basket case after the first breakdown.
Well, I'm the proud owner of 2006 PT Cruiser. It's got nearly 170,000 miles and is essentially on life support-- the brakes don't know when to stop, the transmission doesn't always transmit, the engine frequently goes into "limp mode", making speeds of > 40 MPH impossible. And the undercarriage/ suspension is in horrible shape and gives you the impression the whole contraption is about to cave in on the road.

It's interesting how many of the candidates are objectively ugly but still garner a "cool" feeling that makes them seem less so. Also you could spend hours digging into the historical context of them, for example, the AMC Gremlin was the second-best-selling car in AMC's history, warts and all.
The Pacer was too cool to be among the ugliest IMO. A friend in HS had one, inherited from his grandmother I believe, and it felt like riding around in a UFO. Incredibly spacious for a subcompact vehicle.

My nominations:
1982 Dodge Rampage
1983 Glenfrome Facet
Apparently a Range Rover and a AMC Gremlin got into an accident and they reassembled one vehicle from the parts of both.

My 82 year old neighbor drives a PT Cruiser and absolutely loves it. She’s also got a Lexus but recently gave it to her daughter because she prefers driving the PT around town. She’s kept it immaculate and no complaints in the years I’ve known her.

100% THIS! Most cars in here aren’t near the ugliest car…boring or poor design perhaps, BUT THIS…new Bimmer grill is horrendous!!!! Can’t believe people would pay money give this abomination.

I’ve always wanted to get one, tub the back end and drop a 429 Cobra Jet in it…
in high school, a friends dad was a car dealer. He went to an auction and at the end of it… they said he could have an absolute POS Ford Festiva in the back if he would just haul it out of there.
He brought it home and gave it to my friend, we took a torch and cut off the entire top. We painted it with rattle can paint.
The car was freaking dangerous as hell to drive because only one wheel’s brakes worked. You could shift into second, heel and toe the brake pedal real quick, and then clutch to shift and it sounded like the car was spinning when you shifted. We won a hundred bucks from someone who said it wouldn’t get rubber in all 4 gears like The Beach Boys song.
His dad made us fix the brakes or park it.
We would do crazy shite to it like change the oil and put in a quart of oil, a quart of slick 50, a quart of Lucas oil treatment, a quart of STP oil treatment, and a quart of marvel’s mystery oil. The engine never flinched. We rigged up a cable through the car hooked to a spray attachment on top of a can of starting fluid that sprayed into the breather to see if it would add power. It just flooded it.. but it did make starting it easier.
Eventually the whole car started bending in the middle since we cut off the top structure. Well and we beat the shite out of it. But it was still running the day he parked it because the frame was bending.

I know a ship captain in Orange Beach who bought 18-20 Yugos from a scrap yard. Removed all the fluids and stuff not allowed to use for a artificial reef.
He chained them together and dropped them in a spot. Came back in 6 weeks and they were gone. He assumed they rusted away to so little the sonar wouldnt pick them up.

I know someone to this day that swears he jabbed a sharpened #2 pencil into the fender of a Yugo one time on a dare. Said they were made that thin.
Said to bring him another Yugo and he would do it again…. iF you can find one.
