This was definitely the case with our last 2 cars. Dealer financing was 0 of 60 months and 0 for 72 months.

Most of these rates are temporary promotions to boost sales. For example Nissan has a few of these 0% rates right now. Also you can find a lot of these incentives and promotions on a site like Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book, etc.

No. Try CarMax. You can be in and out in an hour with no bullshite games. I've done my last two vehicle purchases through them and I'll never visit a traditional dealership again. My time is worth more to me than a grand or two and a day of playing games with those assholes.

Some of the prices on Car Max are good and some are high for the value of the car. I find a majority are over priced. Maybe 60% are high. There are still fair prices and good deals there though. Also, make sure it’s not a former rental car. CarMax sells some of those former rentals. We all know how people treat rentals, lol.

Don't underestimate the value of a 6 month old, used BMW. Can be ~20% off sticker with 3 years maintenance included and a 4 year warranty

Which means you have 4 years to find another car, because when that POS goes out of warranty it is nothing but a bottomless money pit.

I just went through this. As I posted last week, have your financing already pre approved. Work your best deal over the phone and internet. Make them send you a offer with all lines filled out. Anything bundled, tell them to split it up and list the costs individually.
Watch out for outrageous Doc fees and BS Dealer add-ons, paint and seat protection, nitrogen filled tires. Tell them right from the start you don’t want it and stick to it.
Extended warranty is up to you but it usually isn’t worth the cost.
If you aren’t comfortable at anytime, take a step back and regroup.

Dealership said they couldn’t allow outside financing and so we threatened to walk. After 30min of him and hawing the finance manager said ok, we’ll take it

I wouldn’t have given him 30 minutes

As soon as I told the F/I guy I was already pre approved through my credit union, he said they couldn’t touch the rate I had and we moved right on from there.

No reason to step on a car dealership anymore unless you need to test drive something or you're signing paperwork

Financing and shopping can all be done online from home now.

Don't buy a new car.

Buy one a couple of years old that's still under factory warranty. Find one with less than 30K miles. (My aunt turned in a 3 year old Corolla lease car with 585 miles on it. Yes. 585. It was new but not new. You CAN find deals if you spend the time looking.)

Make sure the car has a transferrabe 100K power train warranty. I made this mistake once and the turbo system went out. Manufacturer wouldn't do warranty repair because I wasn't original owner.

Good luck.

Set expectations the minute you sit with them, "im not buying anything extra" they then just talk to me and never try to sell, did this last 3 or so times.

I disagree with paying 1000 dollars for someone to negotiate a car deal for you. I’ll do it for 900! If you think about it, it’s flawed logic because at some point the negotiator is going to be getting paid on both ends. The customer is paying the fee to the “negotiator” and if the “negotiator” has tons of clients, then dealerships will eventually get in bed w them and kick them back money for bringing them customers, even if the deals have thin margins, because the manufacturers pay large bonuses for volume. Over time the negotiator will be getting paid by the customer, and the dealerships he/she is driving their customers to, and all the negotiator has to do is tell the customer, trust me it’s a great deal, thats what you paid me for! It sounds like a good idea on paper, and maybe in some spaces it is a great idea, possibly high end exotics or classic and collectibles, but for everyday Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevy Silverado, F-150 etc, etc its just another fee, and you can do it on your own over email or text very easily.

Last vehicle I bought, 2021 Tacoma. Swiped my card, drove off the lot.

My friends and relatives own over a dozen dealerships. It makes it too easy.
