Migration to southern states continues to be magnified by the lingering pandemic, and no state netted more U-Haul® customers during the last year than Texas.

The Lone Star State earned bragging rights as the leading growth state of 2021, narrowly besting Florida for tops honors, according to transactional data compiled for the annual U-Haul Growth Index.

Tennessee ranks third, South Carolina fourth and Arizona fifth among the top growth states.

California is 50th and Illinois 49th on the list for the second consecutive year, indicating those states once again witnessed the largest net losses of one-way U-Haul trucks.

quote:

California remained the top state for out-migration, but its net loss of U-Haul trucks wasn’t as severe as in 2020. That can be partially attributed to the fact that U-Haul simply ran out of inventory to meet customer demand for outbound equipment.

Cali will collapse after enough tech (which is their economy) companies leave. Hopefully it will be built up again with common sense. At this point, you just need an eraser and start over.

California will soon be nothing but lily white rich gated communities and messican barrios. .

with leaders like Nancy Pelosi as your Cal.rep it explains a lot. Working class folks getting taxed into oblivion to pay for people that don't work and illegals. Environmental standards that are paid for by more taxes. Their leaders are so out of touch with the people they represent it explains the mass exodus. Just need to leave their liberal thinking in cal.

Except for the fact the weather and geography are by all means awesome, it’s the closest location to Asia for intercontinental business, and those will continuously have enough money they won’t run out.

I’m not pumping Cali, but outside of their bottom 50% of people it’s a pretty awesome place to live.

You know your state is fricked up when people don’t want to enjoy the nicest year round weather in the country. Thank you, Nancy Pelosi, you communist loser.

This also seems horribly skewed in that it’s by net amount of trucks, not net amount of trucks per capita. California and Illinois and NY have a lot of people compared to some other states like say Minnesota. I’d like to see a trucks per capita.

Interesting choice.

For all of its problems, at least you aren't frozen for 6 months every year in California.

The worst part is that most of these people will go to new places and vote the same way they voted in Cali. The best part about Cali was concentrating all of the idiots into one place, now were dispersing them throughout the country. Dangerous situation.

Anecdotal...but I know a lot of folks at my company that have relocated from Los Angeles to Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

They'd almost all fit in quite well in the Texas political landscape.

On their way to frick up a good red state. Maybe now the good conservative counties can take over and make Cali great again.

Y’all are making the false assumption that everyone who is leaving is Blue or that even the majority who are leaving are Blue.

They aren’t.

Cali really is turning into a polarized state of haves and have nots, the super rich and the super poor.

Don’t think Louisiana will not be running out of UHAULS soon.

At least you can still pay high taxes even though your quality of life downgrade is substantial.

Somebody, I can't remember who posited the idea that the reason California is so fcked up is because people migrated when they didn't fit in. So in frontier times people who didn't mesh with society kept going further west. Eventually ran out of room to move so it essentially became a collection point for weirdos.

This is not a repeat from each year of the last decade…

Cali habitually runs out of trucks going out of state, which is why rates for out of state are through the roof and why rates for some states inbound to Cali are laughably low.

At one point, I remember the rate for Texas to Cali was about $200-250 while the rate for Cali to Texas was $1000+ due to the cost of repositioning trucks once the move was done.
