There is a good article out there somewhere abt how soccer has decimated the US Mens' tennis program at the grassroots level over the past 3 decades. Thus causing a decline at the upper levels over time. In the 60s and 70s, a lot of kids who didn't play baseball or basketball, played tennis. Now those same kids play soccer exclusively. To be fair, the USTA has only recently started doing a better job of marketing the sport at the grassroots level. They fckd up in the 90s and 00s.

This thread sent me to Youtube and I just watched the Fury/Wilder second fight. Are there plans for these two to fight again? It looks like Fury burst Wilder's eardrum early in the fight and Wilder struggled with his balance as a result. I would have to think a rematch between these two would be in high demand.

I think the loser had a certain amount of days to ask for a rematch. I’d have to think Wilder and Fury both would want the rematch because of the money aspect. As you noted earlier Wilder is a big man. He’s from Tuscaloosa and hits incredibly hard. Fury took his best shot in the first fight and got knocked on his arse but he got up. If they have the 3rd fight Fury will win unless he gets caught by Wilder with one of his haymaker punches which can happen to any heavyweight. I just think Fury already took his best shot and got up from the mat. I’d love to watch a 3rd one. Ali Frasier fought 3 times. Many in here think Mike Tyson would stand a chance against Fury. I just think both Fury and Wilder are too big and hit way too hard for Mike Tyson. Tyson and Holyfield are like light heavyweights compared to these two dudes and both guys struggled fighting bigger men. When you first look at Tyson Fury you think this guy can’t fight. But once the fight starts it becomes very clear he can move like a cat, is technically sound, smart, and he’s the type of man you have to kill to make him stop. No telling what Tyson Fury’s record is on cash money bare knuckle fights. Doubt he’s ever lost in a bare knuckle fight either.

The feminization of the Olympics has something to do with it. Once NBC figured out that they could attract female viewers by bombarding us with non-stop gymnastics, rhythmic dancing and the like; the traditional Olympic sports got pushed to the back burner. (Overdosing us with Dream Team coverage hasn’t helped). When I was a kid, by the time Sugar Ray Leonard, the Spinks brothers, etc turned pro they were household names and we were eager to see them as a pro. Now, the average American couldn’t pick out an American Olympic boxer in a line up.
That’s not the only factor. Too many organizations and weight classes don’t help. But, lack of Olympic coverage has played a part.

Tyson Fury looks like a dude who takes the term "heavyweight" to heart but, damned if he isn't REALLY good and fun to watch. Men his size shouldn't move like he does. I hope the Joshua fight can eventually go off and we get an undisputed champion; there hasn't been one since Lennox Lewis.
I think as of right now, though, both Fury and Joshua are already contractually obligated to other fights that would have to be completed or handled somehow before they could face each other. It would suck if one or both lost their titles before a chance to unify all the belts could happen.
Being able to watch the two Tysons go toe to toe in their prime would be amazing.

I don't know, man. Tyson was kind of short for a heavyweight. They listed him at 5'10", but I think it was actually closer to 5'9". In any case, Fury's damn near a foot taller than Mike. Would Mike's uppercut still be as devastating with that kind of height difference and could he land it cleanly on the chin? I think the tallest guy Mike fought was around 6'5" tall. I think Mike's left hook would still be devastating if he could land it, but that's easier said than done. Fury is unnaturally quick for a man his size and the reach advantage and speed might make it difficult for Mike to work his way inside and actually land one of those sleeping potions. Would Mike's lightning fast hands and power allow him to overcome Fury's agility and height/reach advantage? Could Mike use the same punches and just attack the liver, kidneys, and diaphragm if the head's no longer available? Could Mike ever beat Fury if the fight turned into a boxing match where the reach advantage is even more of a plus for Fury? Would Fury be able to land one of HIS blackout punches on Mike given the angles he's got to work with?
Like I said, I'd LOVE to be able to see that fight. We always like the play the what-if game with the big fighters of different eras, but never get to see it. Such is heavyweight boxing.

It was over for all the bums Mike fought. Not Fury, Lennox Lewis, Wilder or the Ukrainian. Those big men would take his left hook and laugh at Iron Mike. Tyson got knocked out cold when he faced an in shape larger Buster Douglas. Tyson couldn’t get out of the ring fast enough against Holyfield because he was getting his arse whopped and bit a piece of his ear off. Tyson was a good fighter but not a great one. We aren’t talking scared Michael Spinks here we are talking about skilled much larger boxers that would curb stomp Mike Tyson.
