It happened about an hour and some change ago. The school has since been evacuated.

quote:

Two teenagers have been airlifted to hospital after an explosion at a high school which led to the entire building being evacuated.

Students at Dinwiddie High School, in Virginia, described smelling ‘burning’ and ‘chemical fumes’ after the blast was sparked in a chemistry lab.

The school has sent all of the pupils’ home, with law enforcement investigating the cause of the explosion.

It is understood that the blast took place in a room on the second floor of the building during a science class.

Students are currently outside of the building, as ambulances remain on the scene, waiting for their parents to collect them.

One witness claims that an air ambulance landed on the school’s soccer field before flying one person away from the scene.

It is not clear how many people have been injured by the blast, or how serious their conditions are.

That's rough. I immediately thought of the Joe Dirt scene.

My first guess is someone left the butane valve open and the class filed up with gas. And then someone tried to spark a Bunsen burner and that led to the explosion.
