I live an hour north of Carrollton. They're in the same region as the HS in my city and I have refereed their HS soccer matches also.
The district, as all other districts in GA are doing, is online learning only through the end of the school year, which is the Friday of Memorial Day weekend (some districts have decided to end the year early). Seniors around here get finished with coursework about a week before the rest of the school. The district is well within its rights to expel them for violating its Code of Conduct. They will not graduate and they can either enroll in another district (as was pointed out, the city of Carrollton and Carroll County are separate school districts) or obtain a GED.
As was pointed out earlier, students don't have the same 1st Amendment rights that adults have while in a school setting. The online learning requirement is what the district will lean on to back its claim.
I will be interested to see if a lawsuit is filed and what the ultimate outcome will be. It will be a precedent setting decision.

Why not?
I don't know. I'm just pointing out the opinion of some here, and on social media, who feel the need to permanently destroy these kids' lives for their stupidity.

Well yea, this board makes it pretty easy. The racism is pretty blatant on here, and that's cool. Racist on here know it's not against the law, so frick it.
And the poster thats starts off by saying " being black myself" is the apologist. And that's probably a load of bullshite too.

They weren't in a school setting and never mentioned the high school, their 1st amendment rights will prevail despite how vile the video was.

Well, that part was said in jest, primarily cause it doesn’t matter. But, I really am. And everything I said I meant.
I’m sure you laughed and agreed when Chris Rock literally said the exact same thing on stage to the whole world and black folks everywhere nodded in agreement. But then, two big bad racist white high schoolers who are on the verge of taking over the world and enslaving everybody are evil and terrible.
Get the frick outta here man.

Rock said there is a difference between negros (the n word) and blacks
This video says that the first definition of a negro is black
So all negros are black but not all blacks are negros? That is a tough sell, based on that video.

There is no disputing what these two did was exponentially stupid but are we really going go down this route of kicking people out of school for something like this? What’s next?
Do you see the big picture here or are your feelings to hurt recognize it?

That said, I don’t know if they should be expelled for it. On one hand, I think they absolutely deserve to be punished and feel the pain of their stupid mistake. On the other hand, I think it might be an overreach to expel them for racist words on a video.
If you scroll through the Twitter replies on the original post, Twitter users have already found their real names, home addresses, colleges applied to, etc.
The guy in the video is apparently an indy wrestler.
He's been fired from that job:
and the gym he trained at cancelled his membership:
I'm still scrolling, but they are also mass emailing the colleges that the girl applied to demanding that she not be accepted.
The couple in the video have some white knights out there trying to photoshop some old tweets by the girl that posted it to make her look racist, but she just keeps posting screenshots of the real tweets alongside the photoshopped ones.

The internet is a legitimately terrifying place.

Would you call yourself an educated man? It’s quite comical that you automatically blanket anyone who disagrees with your feelings on this as a racist.
And then I guess you are calling the poster who said he was black an Uncle Tom”, right?
The behavior of the two kids was exponentially stupid. Should they have some form of punishment? Absolutely but the punishment does not fit the crime in any way, shape or form.
But please, keep on calling everyone racists, it’s the easy thing to do for people such as yourself. Can’t have people saying words, that’s completely unacceptable and when they do, burn them at the stake, right?
You are weak-minded, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh really, please tell me where you think I stand. Another pathetic attempt at a “gotcha”.
It’s quite obvious where you stand though. Pot meet kettle.
But please, by all means, tell me your thoughts. This ought to be great.

No, found it.
That wasn’t even funny. What on earth possessed them to share it on the internet?

There are people in this thread that would celebrate if one or both of these kids commit suicide as a result of this.

I haven’t seen it but from reading the article and comments here, the two involved were using numerous racial stereotypes and slurs.
Who knows their thought process on doing that,
Stupid is as stupid does.
Yet somehow saying the punishment is excessive means your racist.

I just watched the video. What idiots... and it wasn't even slightly funny. They deserve whatever they have coming.
Everyone knows you can't do this without getting fricked by the internet. it's not 2012 anymore.

The Twitter handle of the person that originally exposed these two is @camden52801.
I'd post the link if an admin would give me the green light.
