Eastgate has been sketchy for well over 20 years. Nearby Camelot and Woodland Ridge subdivisions aren’t what they once were. I’m noticing more and more unkept yards and some home values well below $120 a square foot.

East gate has some good people, and some decent starter homes toward Camelot but that front side is a shithole.

Because Downtown BR has made an effort to push them away from that and into the burbs.

Siegen has seen a reduction since Lipsey put his foot down.

I wonder if they’ll catch him.

Or if the family will take care of it. Might be better that way

I lived in that gated community in the corner back by the red roof inn when I moved here 9 years ago while my house was being built. Pretty sketchy but the neighborhood was nicer than apartments.

I've lived in a lot of places that are bad shitholes now but were only moderate ones at the time. Tigerland, Manchester (S Harrells Ferry at O'Neal), off of O'Neal behind the movie theater

that interstate area on Sherwood is absolutely disgusting.

Our office used to be in that area. This was 2006 - 2008. It was not that great of an area, but I don't remember seeing homeless people.

Is this something that has become a problem in the past 10 or so years?

Yeah, if only the taxpayers could take a stand against stealing by the politicians in this city who need a fancier downtown to sell us out for special interests.

Livingston, Ascension, Iberville benefit while EBR decays

Katrina and the trash dump from NOLA that put section 8 housing up on SSF Blvd.

Central becoming its own city

Cortana Mall becoming a second rate after Mall of LA in 96

The Flood

Those are the factors.

As downtown pushed them to the burbs in the last 10 years.

How does this one come in to play? Central was never really an issue with BR crime.

When I worked downtown BR between the years of 2012-2015 - I ran across different groups of people that were homeless that moved down here for work

There were a few from Texas, plenty from Michigan and a couple of others from California

I don’t know the real reason they were here but most were drug addicts and had no intention of finding work

This reason is worn out and irrelevant for today’s problems. I’m part of that ‘trash dump’ and I know for a fact that BR had plenty of problems long before Katrina. There’s always been problems in N BR and when the Cortana area went to crap.

I think BR only gained about 10k permanent residents after Katrina. It was a mess for about 6 months but returning to normal after that. Crime in BR really started spreading to otherwise decent areas in the mid to late 90s. It was really a lingering effect of John Parker's school desegregation case.

Plus Katrina was 15 years ago. I kind of think that 10k permanent residents might even be too high of a number.

I read that number somewhere in the past few years but I don't know if it's accurate. It's probably pretty hard to measure considering the city has lost population over the past decade.

School systems caused migration.

Sherwood isn’t NBR & you clearly weren’t here beforehand so you’re out of your depth.

The housing put up for the trash is related to rising crime rate and sinking property value.

I grew up there and was across the street from the dead body next to the dope house today.

I lived in Oaks of Kingsbridge apartments during the late 1990s to 2003. Saw some thugs doing drug deals inside the gates of the property. I moved to Gonzales in early 2004. Didn't realize a lot of my old HS classmates had a thing for Gonzales too. lol
