This thread could be a case study on why social media is terrible for society no good comes from arguing with people on the internet

If only the poor, innocent Europeans had stayed in Europe, they never would have been introduced to all of these savage foreign practices.

Actually, it's because no one with a basic understanding of logic gives a shite.

Using an illogical statement to claim logic?

Logic is derived from the objective observance of reality, not giving "a shite" about reality is when discussing logic is definitely illogical.

Logically tell me how there weren't millions of white slaves if slavery was solely about labor needs and not about racism.

Do you just type shite and hope someone doesn't notice? Logic is a specific discipline used to determine whether conclusions follow from premises.

Nothing you've said has qualified as 'objective observance' either.

A far worse fate for their ancestors awaits had they stayed in Africa.

Yes. There were not that many, and not all did it willingly, but there were blacks who did indeed fight for the Confederacy. Since this goes against the modern leftist narrative concerning blacks and the Confederacy, it’s almost impossible to find mention of them on the internet in anything resembling factual terms

If it did not happen often. Then wouldn't it make sense that there's not many sources regarding this?

Literally the same thing European merchants said to justify slavery. Nice.

'But don't you understand! We did these people a favor by subjecting them to a brutal, hereditary chattel slavery system that destroyed families. Because you see, after we either brought them over on a voyage that killed many of them, we fed AND clothed them! Slavery was really magnanimity on the part of the Europeans!'

No. We're supposed to concede that slavery was socially accepted in the past throughout most of human history, and was not inherently "racist." And then stop trying to apply modern sensibilities to history at the cost of all of our freedoms.

We are talking about American slavery here. Do you really want to argue that this form of slavery wasn't racism. Is that the hill you want to die on?

Factual numbers show there were a few thousand black slave owners.

3775 (including mixed-race) of 395,216 (0.96%) total slaveholders that owned a total of 12,760 slaves of the over 2 million owned.

quote:

The largest slave owner in the midlands of South Carolina was William " April" Ellison

He was the largest black slave owner. He owned 68 slaves at the start of the civil war. Interestingly, two of his sons tried to sign up for the Confederate Army but were denied due to their race.

The estate of the largest slaveholder in South Carolina owned 1130 slaves at the start of the civil war. So if the largest owner of slaves in the Midlands of South Carolina only had 68 slaves, that leads me to believe there were not any significant slaveholders in the Midlands.

quote:

he was a black man that was actually born a slave yet earned his freedom then bought his former masters plantation and increased the amount of slaves he owned.

Yeah, he purchased his freedom from and later purchased the plantation from the man generally considered to be his biological father, William Ellison, Sr.

He is a very interesting person to read about.

If one of the re-enactors had busted out a bullwhip, it would become less funny real fast.

There obviously was racism in those days but slavery was more about business. How can it be racist when whites, Indians and blacks all owned slaves?

Again if all colors of race owned slaves wouldn't that point more to a necessity for farming, at that time, as opposed to racism.

If slavery was actually not racist at all, and completely equal opportunity. Please show me all of the examples of white people being slaves to black people.

Agreed, William Ellison has an interesting history.

One of my favorite podcasts, Bear Grease, tells the story of Holt Collier.

He was born a slave and joined the 9th Texas cavalry at 14. He became a legendary hunter and actually guided Teddy Roosevelt on a couple bear hunts in Mississippi

It isn't even an argument that the descendants of slaves in the U.S.A. are far better off than had they remained in Africa.
