Turning into your parents is real

The older I get the more that I am noticing how I am picking up the same habits as my dad that I remember while growing up.
1. My wife (DM for only fans) is incapable of turning off any lights and it absolutely infuriates me.
2. If anyone in my house touches the thermostat we are throwing hands
3. I love dad jokes now
4. Having a son made me realize that the “dad voice” only comes after your first child is born.
5. I catch myself standing while watching TV if I’m walking thru and want to see what’s on.
6. There’s severe weather threat and I’m on my patio drinking a beer and watching the clouds

I reluctantly agree with everything you are saying

I’ll say things sometimes, and it’s like an echo from 20 years ago. I can hear my fathers voice in my own and I’ll think “I get it now old man.”

I’m constantly telling people to close the outside doors and that I’m not paying to AC the neighborhood. My dad did that a ton.

Yes and I’m proud to represent them.

What’s it like to have a father?

Agree with the lights, not the thermostat… I do not like being in a hot or cold house, but my dad was a thermostat nazi

Yeah, I’m starting to ramble on about nothing at all for way too long like we used to do long ago back when America was real and the stock market is gonna crash and this new stuff is crazy damn your mother.

In short the answer is…. YES
I’m 40 and I turn into my dad a little more each day!!!
Not a bad thing though at least my dad is a great person to become. There are a lot worse people I could emulate.

And it’s not a bad thing, but I’m actively trying not to reproduce their bad habits and welcoming virtually all of the ones you listed.

All of these minus the beer.

Not sure the animosity or fear of turning into a responsible adult.

Yeah. It’s hard to pick and choose what we take. But it’s crazy, some of the phrases I say, exact same tone, words, feeling…it’s eerie. But I get it.
“You’ve always got an excuse, don’tcha?”

It’s a real thing. It’s been happening for years and it makes me smile.
