Except ALL Tulane students should now proclaim themselves as black so they can all get this benefit.

We have a woman running for president that did it so I guess not

Embarrassing.

It is. It's just racist against white people by "marginalized" people which is the ok kind.
Asians are lumped in with white people too as “over privileged”

Otherwise there is no black, white, hispanic, pacific islander, or any other legal basis of determination. Just whatever you say you are, you be's dat.
I mean Heels Up Harris claims to be Black but she's really half Asian Indian and 1/2 Jamaican (mix of Scot, English, African, Carib-Indian).
So I dunno, maybe you are black. Do you feel black? And how does that feel exactly anyway?

That Emory anthropology tenured prof got canned for using this expression in class like ten years ago.
Eta: actually I left out the rest of the expression, that's probably what did it.
Eta2: I jogged my memory on this. She wasn't fired and the statement was at some panel discussion. She would've been had this happened today (it was 2003, before everyone was a total bitch tit)

Maybe someone will use 23 And Me to try and claim things.
Then someone will get the reverse Uncle Rukus and get back a sheet reading "102% white with a 2% margin of error."

I’m guessing these communities don’t include Bawcomville, LA and Vidor, TX?

Whether or not you agree with the possible policy change being reviewed.... there’s something to be said for the fact it’s like one tenth of one percent of tuition and in the grand scheme it’s fighting over pennies when there are hundred dollar problems on the table

The equity fee was pushed by the student organization Les Griots Violets, which stated on a petition calling for the fee that “when Black people are free, everyone is free.”
Imagine being a student at an expensive private university and truly believing you’re oppressed in some way.

How fricking condescending is it to refer to black people as marginalized?

The student government at Tulane University recently approved an “equity fee” that aims to foist a $240 per-student increase on existing student fees to fund diversity programs on campus after complaints that “marginalized” students need more support at the private institution.
