TSA to end shoe removal policy at some airport security checkpoints, government source say

It’s now OK to keep your shoes on at some airports.
The Transportation Safety Administration will allow passengers at selected airports to keep their footwear on as they go through security checkpoints, a senior government official tells NBC News.
People in screening lanes will have to keep their shoes on at selected airports, but the source said the relaxation of the rules could expand nationwide in the near future.
The TSA has yet to announce the move formally, but stated in a Monday press release that it is "exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong security posture."
Shoe removal has been part of the airport experience since 2006, when the TSA instituted the requirement, citing intelligence indicating a "continuing threat" of explosives.
The rule came after Richard Reid tried — and failed — to ignite his homemade shoe explosives on an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami on Dec. 22, 2001.
Reid’s plan was disrupted when he struggled to light a fuse attached to his shoes, which contained roughly 10 ounces of explosive material, according to the FBI.
He was subdued by passengers and crew members and taken into custody when the flight diverted to Logan International Airport in Boston.
Reid pleaded guilty to terrorism charges and is serving a life sentence at a "Supermax" prison in Colorado.

i just wish they would enforce the rules the same at all airports. it's pretty simple. some airports require that i take my ipad out of my carryon when going through the checkpoint and others don't. TSA people are among the rudest and most power happy people i have ever seen and if you ask a simple question they answer you like you are an idiot. it would just be nice to know what rules to expect before you enter so i dont get scolded like a child for asking if my ipad needs to come out or if i need to take my necklace off.

Why only some?
Either it’s an actual threat or it isn’t.

Brother I fly out of the same airport every week and the rules change every time
I swear TSA has huddle meetings every shift where they decide if it’s going to be a bin or no bin day

This doesn't matter because it feels like TSA process isn't standardized anywhere. One airport they want your shoes off and in the bin, another you keep them on, another you're getting barked at for having your laptop taken out, then on your return flight at the same airport they're yelling at you for not taking it out. Only thing that all TSA checkpoints have in common is that they're a joke.

The TSA is like hiring postal workers to protect your airports

The TSA as it currently enforces airport safety should be abolished.

That sort of makes sense.
The shoe thing never really did, however.

or you just get TSA precheck and don't worry about any of the shoe/jacket/belt/necklace/ipad/laptop issues and just get through security like a normal person who isn't committing murder/suicide that day.

the shoe bomber sort of started that but the "sniffing" technology has probably gotten to the point to where it isn't necessary anymore

Clearly you've been to more airports than I have.
But have you been to Lambert-St Louis, or Lambert-Hooterville has it was known by a local sportswriter for a long time?

This cannot be emphasized enough. I've already got a list of shite I have to do for TSA on the reg and I am prepping to do those tasks to get through as fast as possible. Then comes the exceptions of the day and don't dare ask for a clarification. I usually have 3 or more kids with me that I have to manage on top of that and it is infuriating to be dealt with like I am as dumb as they are.

Probably because not all airports are equipped with the same scanning hardware.

Oh, I know that absolutely started it. It was never anything but pointless chasing your tail silliness, though.
