I’d leave a shitty pistol in my truck and rig it so that it will explode if anyone fires it.

This. Get an old gun. Fill the barrel with some lead. When the thief goes to fire it, it blows up in his face.

Get the frick out of NOLA. That’s what I would do. Of course, I’d never be there to begin with.

It’s no secret to the OT that I despise that city.

Well, I'll tell you what I did...

I moved out of that shithole 20 years ago. Thirty five miles away is a different, peaceful world.

The only guy whose window wasn't smashed had left his car unlocked for this very reason. He just takes all his valuables out of his car and lets the thugs look through his vehicle

This reminds me of an event that happened about 20 years ago.
I knew a young lady (sorry, no pics) who did just that, and the thugs went through her car one night. In the glove box was a credit card type key that Mazda used to supply when you purchased a car that you could put it in your wallet. The theory was that in case you ever got locked out of your car you could get into it in an emergency.
Young thugs found this key and they were able to use it to steal her car. She reported it to the police, and after a few days, she got very impatient that they had not found her car.
She began to ride around "likely" areas looking for her car, which everyone told her was a bad idea.
About 8 or 9 days after the theft, she was visiting her parents who lived by the local high school. She glanced into the parking lot and spied her car parked there.
She called the police, and waited and waited. School was about to let out for the weekend so about 10 minutes before the bell, she walked over and stole her car back from the thieves.
When the police arrived a half an hour later, they chastised her for taking it back, saying that she messed up the crime scene and that now they would never be able to catch the perps.
She politely pointed towards the parking lot, where two "utes" were standing, scratching their heads looking around puzzled.
Of course, no arrests were ever made in either crime.

Question for you: do you have any stickers on the truck like yeti, any kind of hunting stuff, guns, outdoor stuff? It seems like that is a magnet for criminals to break in to see what’s in the truck.

I do this without the steering wheel lock. Most of the time if it’s hot I leave it running with the doors unlocked. I’d much rather shop for a new vehicle than a window

They don't care in rural areas either.

I followed my own advice from previously in the thread several years ago.

My place in the middle of nowhere, I worked 45 miles away 4-5 days a week. Someone watched and waited for me to go to work. Broke into storage building got weedeater, set of nice golf clubs, etc.. I replaced with bottom of the line cheapies and sure enough they broke in a 2nd time. Did not replace again so the 3rd time they broke in they got nothing. Not been broken into ever since.

Do without or protect your stuff. That's the 2 choices.

(Was different guy I did shoot one night trying to break into the storage building, he never came back either, nor did the guy in machine shed I shot at but missed with rifle. Left the bullet holes through the walls as a sign to others prowling)

Stay the f*ck out of Latoya's Orleans Parish. If you MUST go there, Uber it.
