Will be at the mouth of the MS River by Friday's forecast.

Figured as usual that this would end up in the Gulf.

I think Houston can use another Cat 1 for good measure.

Will this thing even get a name? Hopefully it doesn’t just sit in the Gulf and bulk up after traversing Cuba.

Will it even be anything if it goes directly over Cuba?
Posted on 7/31/24 at 7:32 pm to bubbz
Depends on what part of Cuba. Hopefully it goes over the mountains on the north side and shreds it to pieces

This isn't the type system to have that be the case. It isn't going to be very organized or strong when it interacts with Cuba. The land/mountain interaction could actually have the opposite effect with this one. Any real development is expected after it is away from Cuba.

The long-term future of the tropical wave we've been watching for the better part of the last week is very uncertain & full of predictability barriers.
In addition to its interaction w/ the Greater Antilles, both the EPS & GEFS are forecasting a "Col" pattern to setup over the SW Atlantic next week.
This "Col" pattern generally signals potential for the steering currents in/around this tropical wave to collapse in several days as it nears the SE US, Florida, &/or the East-Central Gulf Coast, potentially as a bonafide tropical cyclone (TC) by then.
Everyone in/around the SE US, Florida, & East-Central Gulf Coast should keep a close eye on this tropical wave over the coming days.

Now they’re just blatantly moving the cone.
