Delgado Community College 2% $75,458,244

I'm curious about these statistics for Community Colleges. I know a few people who went to/graduated from Tulane that have taken a couple classes (nursing especially) attempting to beef up their resume. Would these count as people who enrolled but did not receive a degree from Delgado within 4 years?

ETA: Looks like the % is just for "first time, full time" enrollees so the situation above wouldn't count. Still can't see how it is only 2% if it doesn't include people taking continuing education type classes.

Good info but it is from 2011. Common data sets for each university are reported yearly and can be found online. Nicholls for example is up to 37 percent - still not great but heading in the right direction.

But hey lets cut mcneese, even though its one of the best investments by the state according to this. Also mcneese grads rank only behind lsu, la tech, and ull in starting salaries.

Not to mention it will be the fastest growing area of the state economically and population wise over the next 5 years.

I could see an argument for keeping McNeese. ULM, Nicholls, and Northwestern need to be closed.

The non-LSU schools have ridiculously low standards. A kid who makes it into ULL or UNO with an 18 isn't doing himself or the state any favors when he attends school for a semester or two and drops out. The ACT requirements should be 22-23+ across the board.

I had a 19 ACT and earned a PhD. ACT does not indicate anything.

How the hell does Southeastern have a $100m budget?
--------------------------------------------------------
I'd guess it's because it's enrollment of ~15,000 students gives it the 3rd largest student body in the state, behind only LSU and UL-L.

Mcneese needs to trim some fat no doubt and sowella should be combined with mcneese since the two most important programs, ptech and instrumentation, are already offered at mcneese. Combine the programs, make the aeronautical maint program an associates from mcneese or part of abc and the nursing assistant program can fall under mcneese.

Mcneese has sacrificied alot more then the other ul system schools but imo made stupid cuts. They cut engineering and nursing specifically and made no cuts to the lib arts programs which was a mistake. They should be focusing on nuraing, education, engineering, ptech, instrumentation, science, business and financial degrees. Items that local industries are screaming for.

Stop wasting money on gen studies degrees.

And all the damn schools in Louisiana need to get with the program concerning online classes. Its stupid in today's age that you can't take every class online if you desired. Al you need are willing professors and it department and somebody to film the classes. Not that damn hard, just need the will to do it.

Honestly if these budget cuts dont push them to do it I don't know what will.

even the willing professors who do online classes half arse it. that's no way to really get an education, imo.

I couldn't find anything more recent which provided a comprehensive overview of each institution.

Would love to see it if it can be found.

All the selu fan boys need to check this thread and read the OP.

Yeah I guess the info is hard to find especially for the 2 year schools. Most of the schools serve a purpose but many programs could be consolidated. Education, business. and nursing are needed everywhere but other programs should be combined or made online where the cost to provide them would be reduced.

State workers, being pussies, would rather make cuts across the board than cutting irrelevant programs. It's easier to justify that way

I'm a SELU grad... The only reason I went there is because of their nursing program. I needed the 4-year degree because of my eventual education/training plans, which eliminated BRCC's 2-year curriculum and BRG's diploma program. LSU's nursing program is out of New Orleans, so that was eliminated. OLOL was too expensive for my GI Bill, and I had heard too many questionable things about their curriculum as far as preparation to be nurse was concerned, so I eliminated OLOL. I had heard the same concerns against Southern, so I wasn't going to go there.

Definitely not an SELU fanboy. It was a means to an end. However, Louisiana needs to try and keep as many viable nursing programs as it can, especially with the aging population we have, the level of acuity we see, and the fact that there is already a major shortage of nurses in this country.

Several acquaintances I know scored from 16-21 on their ACT. 2 are CPA's, one is a small business owner, 3 are successful software sales reps in California (Silicon Valley) and two others are lawyers. Conversely, several of those 26 and higher scorers were baristas at Starbucks, working retail or strung out on drugs. Put simply, ACT like SAT is nothing more than a standardized test that doesn't measure the makeup and tenacity of the person, just a number that they got on a timed test.
