I'm not actually tired or anything. I'm just constantly reading how too little sleep is bad for your overall health so it makes me paranoid and I'm just sick of laying in bed trying to sleep.
It’s crazy how some people like Arnold Swarzenegger only sleeps for 4 or 5 hours at the most. He has a motivational speech where he said “sleep faster” so you can get more things done.

Have you tried adjusting the temp in your house?
I’ve been waking up earlier since I’ve quit setting my ac so low at night
When it’s cold in the house I sleep great & don’t want to wake up
Noticed a difference in waking earlier with temp set 2 degrees higher
Same here. Anytime I toss and turn, it isn't cold enough for me. I'm sure there are other things causing sleeplessness, but the really cold house will take care of a large % of it.
Sucks when you live with someone else who likes it a few degrees warmer than you at all times.

This. It's healthier and cheaper.

I wish I had saved all the text messages I used to get from a girl who took ambien.

That sucks.
What is your physical activity and diet like in the 6-7 hours before you go to bed?

I used to have pretty bad insomnia, but my problem was actually getting to sleep. I tried everything under the sun. Even weed just exacerbated it as I would lay there with my mind racing. Eventually got a prescription of trazadone and it helped at first, but I ended up with a tolerance and one time took a little too much and it dropped my BP so low that I would pass out anytime I stood up. So, that was the end of that experiment.
I'm not really sure what changed and I'm sorry I can't give you any tips (you've tried everything I did and any suggestions I would maybe give). Just letting you know that I can somewhat related and give you some hope that it probably won't last forever because if it's past 10 pm, my arse is asleep. I still wake up around 5 or 6 everyday, but it's way better than getting 3 hours of sleep every night.
Good luck man, I've been where you are and know the toll it takes on you physically and mentally.

Here's your stressor. Stop doing that.

That sucks.

"Across From Midnight"
It’s come down to just the two of us
Me and my shadow on the wall
Radio playin’ softly
Somewhere down the hall
And over in the next room
The hollow sound of the cigarette come
I’m sittin’ across from midnight
And morning ist a long way off
There’s a fire in the trashcan
In the alley below
A thousand others gather ’round
Sipping wine and talking low
We’re companions of the night time
We’ve got no place to go
Just sitting across from midnight
Time dragging by too slow
You can feel the night when you’re all alone
There’s comfort in the room
You keep hangin’ on
You wait … until … the dawn, oh yeah
The skeletons in the closet
March around like habitué
I guess it’s too much to ask for
I need some breathing room
And the tall city buildings
They cover up the moon
I’m sitting across from midnight
Bored and you can’t come to soon
The early morning hours
Bring out the darkness of your thoughts
When you sit across from midnight
Morning’s a long way off, so far away
Sitting across from midnight
It’s gettin’ dark
Sitting across from midnight
Me and the shadow on the wall
Sitting across from midnight
Morning’s such a long way off
You know I’m sitting across from midnight

This. I thought that shite was all bullshite. But I got to a point I would try anything. I put a guided mediation video on YouTube and played it when I got in bed. It had me sleeping fast. They have 10 hour videos Incase you wake up. But I’ve never woken up during one.
Same here. I have several ambient 10 hour youtube videos I'll put on. Everything from thunderstorms to a blade runner inspired one that is very meditative. Knocks me out.

My girlfriend started taking magnesium and unisom (the doxylamine version) at bed time, and it has changed her life. She went from only a few hours of sleep per week to getting a full 8 or 9 hours every night. She does not wake up feeling groggy or in a fog at all. I highly recommend giving it a try.

The root cause of this is something is stressing you. Find out what it is and change it. This happened to me a few years ago. Had some stressors in my life i had to get worked out. I did and sleep a solid 7-9 again.
The weed, melatonin, meditation etc etc are just to help cope for now. You have to find out what is eating at you and it's usually not really something obvious.
Edit: I did the "workout till you are tired" thing too. I ended up feeling worse from it since i couldn't sleep well enough for my body to heal properly. I would recommend against doing this.

This worked for me:
- Start working out daily
- Stop drinking anymore than 1 alcoholic beverage in the evenings(none at all helps even more)
- Stop drinking caffeine past 2:30PM
- Don't sit there on the computer, TV or phone late in the evenings. The blue light emitted from those devices fricks with your brain
Obviously you can throw in:
- keep AC as low as you can
- buy more comfortable bed and beddings
- have sex before you sleep

I struggle with it during the summer in Alaska. Meditation does work, but I hardly do it. Best thing for me is to just go for a run or hike late in the day.

Some people lay awake at night trying to solve all the world’s problems, and everyone else just goes to sleep.

The room needs to be dark, cold, and have white noise at baseline. I assume that you've already checked these boxes.
Do you snore? Getting a CPAP changed everything for me. I can now get deep restful sleep instead of waking up 100x a night. Get a sleep study if you think you may have sleep apnea.
If it's stress, you have to try and put those worries aside and know they'll be there for you in the morning. Meditation, write them down and put them in a box, whatever works.
