Man we played this weekend in usssa. Won pool games 16-0 and 15-0. Went on to win the tournament out scoring the comp 54-5 and I have never seen more pissed off people in my life!!! Hell one coach accused us of sandbagging! How the hell do you make a 9 year old sandbag?

They will bump you up a division with the quickness

That maybe enough Utrip but hasn’t been moving people up or down for shite unless they ask due the limited summer season. For one in 14 major and you can barely find any teams but plenty of the AAA are competitive enough to move up and we ain’t going to Texas
Other son is 11aa and have seen teams win multiple tournaments already and not moved. Just don’t think they care about this year

Not many kids 13-14 are playing travel ball at that age, most have moved on. The good kids are playing summer school ball, Metro/Legion and/or showcase ball. The kids playing travel ball at that age are the ones that didn’t make their school teams or aren’t that very good.

You can do both though and the tournaments have been packed with sometimes 15-18 aaa teams.. His entire team outside a few where the schools aren’t doing metro this year are doing both

13U is packed right now with teams. We playing every weekend through July.
14U is where school ball and Metro comes into play. Not sure about this season

Sure you can do both, however some high school coaches won’t allow it if they already have a school program for the summer. Most high school kids are doing showcase weekends or playing Legion or Metro.

I did not say he was hitting the major leagues. Just that he is probably decent enough to play travel ball. Decent arm from the outfield as well for 6. My 5 and 6 year old are adopted so they do not have to overcome my lack of athletic genes.

Depends on where you have to travel. A weekender where you have to pay for lodging & meals the whole weekend, gas, concession foods, etc. and you can drop $500 with no problem. Hell, even a relatively local tourney and it's $100/$150 with ease for a Saturday all day & a family meal with the team parents.
I laugh at the people here acting like travel ball is expensive. Come try out our world, my kid races motocross. We don't have a season that lasts the summer, we race 12 months out of the year. Bikes, travel, race entry, race fuel, maintenance, practice, trainers. I'm not going to say how much I spend a year, but if my kid decided to play travel ball it would be like I got a significant raise.

We have been waiting on them to move us all year but I believe after this weekend they have to. Were AAA team and really should be majors. But it shouldn’t be up to us. We play where they tell us

Dr James Andrew article
Nice article written by professionals. Don't let them overuse your kid

I agree with all of the article. My sons team doesn't play year round, for the most part. They did get together last fall and play a tournament after a couple weeks of practice...but that was a first if I recall correctly.
You notice an amazing increase in arm strength when they come back after 6 months or more off.
The only positive I will say about travel ball is that I have only seen a pitcher overworked on THAT day a few times. I have routinely seen a coach pull a pitcher who was shutting down another team because of pitch counts...so I do have an appreciation for those guys that go take the ball from a kid that is still looking good.
Lastly, the breaking pitch. I believe a few things. I believe they shouldn't be out of the stretch till 11 and I believe a off speed should be avoided until 11 or 12 as well.

There are still too many coaches out there willing to risk a kid's arm for a win. My cousin had a good enough arm where he was likely to get drafted out of high school until his coach overused him and injuries took over. His dad was drafted by the Cardinals so knew the game and risks but hesitated in calling out the coach.

My son doesn’t play baseball, though I want him to see if pitching is something he might like (getting late to start now), but this Spring break from sports has been the first time in 5 years he didn’t always have something to do.
He starts 8th grade football today. I know spring football would have helped him, and he missed some important soccer matches, but in the end I think the break was great to recharge his soul. I don’t know when he’ll get a chance again.
He got hurt, separated AC joint and broken growth plate in his left arm, 4 games into last season...so being back at QB has been a long time coming. He’s ready.

Depends on what level you're racing at. Local level weekend races and you get a few rednecks. When you step up to regional and national level races, it's a completely different game. There's major money at the tracks. It's no longer $5000 campers, it's $250,000 Renegades everywhere. This sport isn't near as redneck as people think, it takes a lot of money to compete at a high level.
We have a race in 2 weeks that I have over $1000 in already, and it's just a qualifier for the national championship. We have spent every Saturday and Sunday at this track that's 3 hours away working with a trainer for the last month. I'm spending about $400 per weekend just to prepare. The race itself will cost another $400 or so, and I have to do approximately $300 in maintenance to the bike before the race. New tires, new piston, new brakes. Fortunately he has sponsors that help with some of this.
If he qualifies through this race, we then train 3 days a week in Dallas for the next month. In that time frame I'll have to buy him a new bike at $6500 and have the suspension setup for another $800 or so. Then the race is in Tennessee and lasts an entire week. After all is said an done, the race itself will be around $5000.
So you aren't seeing very many toothless, uneducated, rednecks running around at these tracks.

I didn’t say poor, just rednecky. Monster energy drink clothes and flat bills....but hell I’m sure it’s fun for your son. My 14 yr old loves riding dirt bikes...who doesn’t?
No one thinks racing is cheap.
Be cool to get him in a rally car at some point...a little safer, I assume, than going the freestyle route.
