4 games on a sunday is really rough on pitching and 5 is just brutal. Most teams don't have enough arm to make it through 3 games much less 4 or 5.

I said 5 games a weekend total..2 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday is a lot for young teams...they just dont have the arms to compete

With PG taking over a lot of the tourneys over here, they have a 100 pitch count/weekend rule now which is going to knock a bunch of teams out. There are a bunch of teams who like to overuse their pitchers and will ride them on a sunday. It's pathetic they have people like that out there, but they do. Hell, the team we lost 2 twice this weekend had multiple 10 yr olds throwing curveballs and for strikes at that. I bet the kid we faced yesterday threw a curve 1 out of every 3 pitches. Just sad.

Thats pathetic....those kids will be ruined by the time they are 13-14 years old. Surgery by the time they are 15-16...I've seen it happen way too often

I like the idea of practicing to learn the game but the weekend cramfest tournaments are ridiculous.

That is sad and irresponsible.

We are wrapping up our first "spring" as a team in 7u and will be an 8u team come Sept. Only our second bracket tournament this past weekend and we won it all. Probably get moved to AAA in the fall and be a middle of the pack AAA team. We have a lot of talent but have some smaller kids who just aren't strong enough yet. All about development and having fun at this age. Half these kids probably won't be playing baseball at age 13 anyway.

That's very true. When we started our first team after 6u rec/7u fall, only half of them are still playing baseball at all and they are 12yrs old this season.

Baseball dads who care more about the game than their kids are the worst dads I've ever experienced in my days on this earth.

Completely agree. Some parents don't understand what these idiot coaches are doing to their kids.

I also think the tournament system is a horrible model that's really designed purely to make money for directors. I wish there were more weekend round Robin 4 game events or double headers where you play 2 games and go home.

We played in one of those at the scrap yard earlier this month and it was awesome. Lost game 1 after being off for 3 months then won next 3 games. Knee exactly when we would play and be home. Kids loved it.

I wish there were more events like that but coaches want to win the intergalactic championship

You will see big changes with they go from coach pitch to kid pitch at 9 years old, when some kids start hitting puberty before others, when they transition from 56/80 to 60/90 and between the 12 year old year and the 13 year old year.

Some kids will fall off, some kids you thought were the worse will pass up the kids that you thought were the best.

You don't know what you have until the kid hits puberty.

My goal is to develop the right habits in them and nurture the love of the game. My son has some natural talent that I didn't get blessed with, just want him to enjoy himself while Developing. Playing with kids and families you like being around is key. These teams that have tryouts every season and cut kids has to be brutal.

The local mayors and tourism directors wouldn't allow early departures.

I will never understand why coaches don't get 4-5 teams together every now and then and just have a jamboree type deal. Hell, I would even have them switch up teams and play each other, be coached by new folks, get a new perspective. Seems like a great way for kids to enjoy the game.

My kid has played in Majors since 9, and at 11 if you dont throw an off speed for strikes you will get pounded unless you are throwing real velocity. Not saying it must be a breaking pitch, but it better not just be straight fastballs unless you have really, really good control.

We did that pretty much our entire 12 year old year. We got together with local nola teams, Houma/Thobodeax teams and some northshore teams and used the weekends as fundraisers and warms round robins because we were all going to Cooperstown that summer

It is brutal. We never cut kids until this new organization and really didn’t do tryouts per sr either. Most of our best friends to this day are the parents of kids who were on that first team from years ago.

Insurance is one reason. There is a lot of liability in hosting games, even if you rent the fields, etc... Most teams don't want to be on the hook to get sued if a Karen gets beamed by an errant warm up throw between the fields or little Johnny gets trucked by a linebacker sized kid at home plate all his teeth are knocked out.

Teams are required to carry insurance anyway to enter any sanctioned tournament or to even rent a field to practice on.....insurance shouldnt be an issue.
